Although passing by many times, this was our first visit to Rama, and although a little expensive, we really enjoyed our visit. Inside, the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and ascetically is very pleasing, with lots of wood carvings making this feel quite authentic. Rama Thai is a good size too, not too big where it feels too quiet but with ample space between tables so you don't feel cramped. We went on a Friday night as a 4 and although we didn't need a reservation, there were numerous other guests which was nice. The service was lovely; charming servers and the food came out rather quickly. To start I had 'Rama Cake', deep fried chicken & prawns in breadcrumbs. The texture was a little rubbery inside but you could distantly taste each of the chicken & prawn which was very nice. You get 3 of these cakes but they are quite small, I did eat the garnish too but I'm not sure if that was meant for decoration... The main was very good, I had 'Nua Pad Prik Tai Dam' which is sirloin steak pieces with onions, peppers, mushrooms, carrots and spring onions in a black pepper sauce served on a sizzling dish. The steak was really good, excellent quality and was still pink in the middle. The black pepper sauce was quite salty but this is how I like it and the mushrooms were the standout from the veg. We also shared a 'Kao Neaw' (sticky rice) & 'Chips' between 2; this was honestly the stickiest rice I've ever had and went really well with my main. The chips were crispy & fresh but the portion was very small, definitely would not get them to share next time. Although portion sizes for the starters and sides were not quite filling enough for the price, the food on the whole was very good. With a great menu, lovely decor and friendly service (also a fantastic Mojito), we would happily return to Rama 7.5/10 Visited Friday 26th January 2024

Nestled in the heart of Rugby, Rama Thai offers an authentic taste of Thailand. From the moment you step through the door, you are greeted with warm smiles and a cozy ambiance that sets the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. The menu is a culinary masterpiece, featuring a diverse array of dishes that showcase the rich flavours and vibrant spices of Thai cuisine. Whether you're a fan of classic favourites like Pad Thai and Green Curry or seeking adventurous delights like Som Tum and Tom Yum, there's something to tantalise every palate. Each dish is meticulously crafted using fresh, high-quality ingredients, and the attention to detail is evident in every bite. The flavours are perfectly balanced, with just the right amount of heat and seasoning to transport you to the bustling streets of Bangkok. Rama Thai is more than just a meal—it's a culinary journey that transports you to the heart of Thailand. Whether you're a seasoned Thai food enthusiast or a first-time adventurer, this hidden gem is sure to leave a lasting impression. Prepare to indulge your senses and savour the flavours of Thailand like never before. It certainly brought back my fond memories of Thailand.

The restaurant is beautifully decorated, although the water feature had a slightly funny smell but we didn’t sit near it so that was fine. The food was very nice, but the portions were a bit small. I enjoyed the sweet and sour tofu with rice. People with me had Thai green curry, massaman, prawn tempura and ribs. The ribs were very little and not so great, but the rest was little but nice. The staff were rushing around, I think they need more staff. We were accidentally given alcohol instead of a Mocktail, which was remedied quickly but not good for us. Again, I think they were understaffed. I’d definitely have the sweet and sour from here again, and I’d recommend eating here. Not a wow, but a very good albeit expensive meal. The set menu looked good value though!

In summary excellent food and great service in a well decorated setting. We had a really good feast for two of us, with all the food brought to us at the same time. Staff were all very friendly.

Our order: POA PIAH PED (Deep fried shredded spring roll) (starter) Very tasty and crispy. The duck & vegetables were cooked really well and good amounts of both. Complimented by a great dip.

GAENG DANG (Red Thai Curry, Chicken) First time I've had a bit of spice to a RTC which was a welcome change. This didn't detract from the rest of the flavours, you could taste the coconut and spices. I will be adding spice to my own RTCs.

WEEPING TIGER (sirloin steak) We had ours medium rare and it came out beautifully. Lovely seasoning and melt in the mouth texture! The sauce that came with it was really nice.

PLA SAM ROD (battered sea bass) A new favourite for me, lovely white flakey fish in a nice batter, accompanied with some good toppings & flavours.

2x Sticky Rice 2x Singha beers

Every dish was well presented.

Some small negatives, no papaya salad options were available and while the tables are very well decorated, I found it difficult to place my legs comfortably on the small two person table and was sitting a little awkwardly throughout. Otherwise we'll definitely be back when we're in Rugby again or near by, this is so far my favourite...
