I went with 3 friends for Lunch - we wanted to try it after its re-opened. We used to go regularly when the previous owners were there and we always loved the food, the service and the staff that were there. When we arrived at the Pub a Food Delivery Lorry was arriving - this should have been a clue that unlike the previous owners who served mostly Homemade Food that most of the Food is probably shipped in on a Lorry. The 4 of us octogenarians all have mobility problems. But we consider ourselves young at heart. As we don’t have large appetites we opted for the Lighter Bites Menu @ £16.95 for 2 people. We all had something different to eat. I opted for the Fish & Chips with Mushy Peas. The food arrived and we all started to tuck in. My tiny piece of Fish was luke warm, but the Batter wasn’t a light golden colour that should melt in the mouth, instead the Batter was thick dark and crusty. My Chips were cold and some of them were burnt - I think they must have been in the Fryer already when they added more Chips. The Mushy Peas looked nice on inspection but there’s nothing less appetising than Stone Cold Mushy Peas. I ate the Fish and a couple of the Chips but left all the rest of my food. The Lighter Bite Portions were well named as they were scarce and tiny. One friend has the Yorkshire Pudding with Roast Beef - she said that though it was lukewarm warm at least it was tasty. My friends all said that their food was barely warm, but they ate it as they were hungry. When the Waitress came to take away the plates she could see I’d left most of my food - she asked if everything was alright with my food and I told her it certainly was not! I said that my meal was cold and inedible. My 3 friends also said that their meals were barely warm though their food tasted OK. The Waitress said she’d get the duty Manager over to speak to us. He came over to talk to us and asked what the problem was - I told him in no uncertain terms what I thought of the food and the fact that my meal was cold, whilst my friends meals were only Luke Warm! He apologised and made the excuse that as the place was busy it can happen - I found his answer unexceptionable.. my friends were still hungry and wanted a dessert - so The Manager gave us the Menus and in view of our complaints he said that the desserts would be free. The Desserts were actually quite nice - though I’ve never had Tiramisu with Vodka in it before. The Staff were pleasant which was probably the only reason I didn’t walk out. I certainly wouldn’t ever go there again to eat. When the previous owners were there we loved the food and...
Read moreI was there few times before was shut down for few months. I was sad when I found out that as that was a good pub with tasty food. This weekend I was celebrating my birthday. My partner asked me to choose a place for a lunch and I choose Roseycombe as I knew that they reopened under new management and I was curious how they cope. That was a good choice. I was not disappointed. We arrived just after they opened and they've got already many customers inside what was a good sign. Me and my partner decided to try Sunday Roast Carvery. That was delicious! And I could put on plate as much vegetables as I wanted. After such a huge meal I found a space for a dessert and I ordered Tiramisu. Design, cleanliness in restaurant, sitting area, service, people working there , prices of meals etc I can rate for 5 starts. (The only one minus was lack of any soap in the toilet so I could wash my hands only with water). I will definitely come back there and try different meals. I'm so happy that they reopened and do fantastic job. I'm sure that they've got many customers who are as happy as me and who visit them regularly. I can highly...
Read moreI recently dined at Roseycombe and while the experience had its highlights, it was a bit of a mixed bag. The service was absolutely outstanding. From the moment we arrived, the staff was warm, attentive, and genuinely eager to make our visit enjoyable. Meah, our server, checked in at the right moments, and made us feel well taken care of throughout the evening. It’s clear that hospitality is a top priority here, and I really appreciated that.
Unfortunately, the food didn’t quite live up to the same standard. While everything was presented nicely, the flavors just fell flat. Dishes that sounded exciting on the menu lacked depth and seasoning, and a few items were either overcooked or not as fresh as expected. It wasn’t terrible by any means—just not memorable, especially given the price point.
All in all, Roseycombe is a place I’d consider returning to for the service alone, but I hope the kitchen steps up its game to match the excellence of the...
