My Partner and I went to Cooked Hat Pub & Grill because we stayed in the Cooked Hat Hotel, so it was pretty convenience as we didn't have to think about dinner after long day exploring Coventry. Staff - very friendly and helpful. Always were around so if we needed to ask for anything, it was easy to get hold of them. Food - we had Sharer Starter which was chicken and for mains we had pub classic Steak and Ale Pie and Peri Peri Chicken with rice and to finish off we had desserts Strawberry Eton Mess. Food was well presented, freshly cooked and it was very tasty. We didn't have to wait long for meal in between. Restaurant - it was a bit of mix feelings. Overal Restaurant was clean but there were few left overs on the tables and never been cleaned same as there was few foods on the floor and despite waitress passed many times, it never been picked up. Overal we had a great experience. Great food, friendly staff, food price is acceptable and it was pretty quiet. I would fully recommend the restaurant. You won't be disappointed.

Visited recently and was extremely disappointed. Staff were abrupt, rude, and clearly unable to cope despite it not being a particularly busy time. The pub seemed understaffed, and the service reflected it. The state of the men’s toilets was shocking – the whole place stank strongly of urine and worse. The floors were soaked with urine, and there was only one cubicle available, which was completely unusable: blocked with tissues and even cigarette packets strewn across the floor. To make matters worse, the mandatory toilet checks had supposedly not been carried out for five days. The one “check” recorded each day appeared to have been fraudulently signed off by the same person, likely the opening manager, without any real inspection taking place. Overall, a very poor experience. Greene King really need to step in and sort this site out – from staff training and resourcing to basic hygiene standards. At the moment, it falls far below what anyone should expect when visiting a pub.

We popped in on a Thursday night around 19:00ish. The staff were great in their interactions with us and have no problems with how we were served by them. Compared to other Greene King pubs this is one of the worst/average restaurants in the chain that we have tried. The food took an age to come out and was lukewarm when it did to the extent I returned my pie and chips. The fajitas just looked sad. Three wraps included equated to one normal size wrap you would have at home. The chicken that went in the wrap was basic chicken slices rather than actual chicken pieces. None of which would have been an issue if we hadn't been charged premium prices. The pub is hidden behind a hedge and it seems out of sight out of mind in terms of quality. A real shame as it has so much potential and compared to other pubs in the chain a real let down.

We decided to try The Cocked Hat to see what the new menu was like. We had been there before and it was average but after this visit we will NEVER be going again. There was one large table over about 8-10 people then half a dozen other tables so it was not busy. After ordering our food, of which the server struggled to understand what we wanted, making mistakes with just ordering we went to the bar and got drinks. Put off at the start by finding a HAIR in a "fresh" pint of Carling only to have no one even apologies just given a new one. Then waiting over 45 minutes for food, I had the southern fried chicken and gammon which I asked for with no black pepper (who coats gammon in black pepper any way) then food arrived with no mushrooms as asked but with peas which was not started on the menu and waitress said there was no black pepper on the gammon but the chef put it on the tomato. If black pepper was asked to be removed from the meat, why would I want the veg coated in it?. Gammon was mostly fat, covered in black bits from the grill and barely cooked. Everything was greasy, onion rings looked like they had not been cooked just microwaved they were so soggy and undercooked and the chips were frozen, alot with green bits on them, not herbs, but green in the chips. NO ONE goes to a "restaurant or pub" for FROZEN CHIPS! My friend ordered the all american dog and it was not even fit for a dog to eat. Bacon that had been passed through a warm room to cook, it was soggy and cold. It looked like it had just been laid on the barely warm hot dog for it to cook. The bun was soggy and inedible, smoothed in disgusting tasting sauce and the cheese tasted off. No wonder it was empty. Staff gormlessly walking around not caring about anything, unable to even clean tables or take an order correctly. Complete shambles and disgusting food. Much better going to TGI's across the road. Heck even Mcdonalds and the chippy down the road are alot better for food. AVOID THIS PLACE. DO NOT EAT HERE. APPALLED...

Living quite close to the Cocked Hat made it an easy choice for a quick bite to eat with family or friends but having been extremely disappointed vowed never to go back again. As with most situations time often softens the anger and after over 18 months decided last Sunday to give it a try. As I entered and was met by a friendly man who said waiting would be around 15 mins was hoping for the best, my husband and I were seated and we were told that someone would be along presently to take our order. This all went well and was relieved that I didn't have to go and order at the bar any more. 50 mins went by and nothing happened but as we were not in any specific hurry thought we would allow them some time, just as we were becoming increasingly agitated by the wait a waitress came over and asked us if we were ready for our main course, this really angered us as we had not even had our starters, we explained this to her and she went off to find out what had happened, once again we waited until we didn't want to wait any more and got up and left the table. As we were leaving we got a feeble apology and nothing else, no offer of making a formal complaint or calling the manager etc just left to go as if they really didn't care.

The reason we hadn't been in for quite some time was virtually the same experience, a total lack of organisation and complete lack of care towards paying customers.

To anyone thinking of eating in this establishment,I strongly suggest you re-consider and under no circumstances would I recommend It to anyone.

We were not the only people in there at the time feeling let down and disappointed as we heard at least two other tables complaining.

Avoid at all...

Myself and friends went for a meal yesterday (Sunday 23rd August 2020) for my birthday meal and to be honest it was the worst place I've ever been to. My partners meal although he asked for a mixed grill medium-rare when the food came out his steak came out blue, oozing in blood, his chips were cold, his chicken was cold and rubbery. Then on his gammon the fatty part qhich my partner loves he took a bite and the fat was not cooked properly and was still pig skin like... One of my friends received his dinner which was the Jack's burger to which everything was served cold. My other friend ordered ribeye steak and when her food came out she actually recieved sirloin steak. When we told a staff member her was lively and took it back to the kitchen where the chef said we dont know what we are talking about. The 2 staff that took care of us for the time at cooked hat were incredible and that was Courtney and Graham. They went above and beyond to make our experience amazing.

HOWEVER the chef and shift management refused to come and talk to us and instead allowed their staff to take the blunt end. It is disgusting behaviour from management team. We then continued to get dirty looks throughout.

A huge thank you to Graham...
