After my first visit in 2013 I wrote this paragraph (for my eBook Manchester X): "The Lamb Hotel in Eccles is a fossil. Scores of smokers outside, boozed up, inside it looks like the Titanic. Edwardian architecture. Dark wood panelling, comfortably warm and quiet as a tomb. A very old haggard woman is getting half a mild every twenty minutes, sipping at her glass with relish, alone on an upholstered corner bench. God bless her little heart! What strikes me as odd is that there are six men in the lounge, each to himself by a separate table, no one’s talking [...] The ghosts of the Titanic writhing in the early evening twilight."

Read moreGrade II listed Edwardian building and recognised by CAMRA as having a nationally important historic interior. The inner walls feature traditional woodwork, half tiled walls and etched glass features, including curved glass bar windows which are typical of Holt's pubs of this era. A constant entry in the GBG and received a certificate to celebrate 25 years in the Good Beer Guide in November 2016.
In our visit to the North, we stopped and had a drink here, specifically because it was in the GBG. We found the staff amiable and forthcoming, even though it was early in the day.
