Ama is a hidden gem that offers an authentic taste of Kurdish cuisine. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warm hospitality and an inviting atmosphere. The decor is tasteful, blending traditional Kurdish elements with modern touches, creating a cozy yet refined dining space.
The menu is a delightful journey through Kurdish flavors. Their lamb kebabs are perfectly seasoned and tender, while the dolma is rich and satisfying, wrapped in grape leaves that melt in your mouth. The standout dish for me was the kubba—a crispy yet soft shell filled with a savory mixture of spiced meat.
If you’re a fan of bread, Ama’s freshly baked naan is a must-try, especially when paired with their creamy baba ghanoush or tangy yogurt dips. Vegetarians will also find plenty of options, from hearty lentil stews to vibrant salads bursting with fresh herbs and citrusy flavors.
The service at Ama deserves special mention. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and eager to recommend dishes based on your preferences. It’s clear they take pride in showcasing Kurdish culture through their food.
For dessert, don’t miss the baklava—it’s perfectly flaky, with just the right balance of sweetness and nuts. Pair it with a strong Kurdish tea to round out your meal.
Ama is more than just a restaurant; it’s an experience that immerses you in Kurdish tradition and hospitality. Whether you’re new to this cuisine or a long-time fan, this spot is worth visiting. I’ll definitely be coming...
Read moreAfter a day exploring Stratford Upon Avon, my coworkers and I decided to try a Kurdish restaurant, but it turned out to be quite the experience—just not the one we were hoping for!
I walked in excited for a flavorful culinary adventure, but instead, I encountered dishes that were poorly seasoned and overly salty, accompanied by an unpleasant odor.
To make matters worse, the atmosphere was off-putting. The background music was blaring, making it hard to enjoy our conversations. When I arrived to greet my coworkers, who had already been seated, the manager, Shoan, yelled at me with an angry expression, saying I was too loud and needed to sit down until our orders were taken. I was taken aback by his rudeness and couldn't believe what I was hearing. Out of respect for my office manager who organized the outing, I chose to stay silent and not engage further with him. The rest of the staff also seemed to be in low spirits.
Overall, it was a disappointing experience. The food was excessively salty, and the service left us feeling unwelcome. At least I was able to share a laugh with my coworkers afterward—sometimes you just have to find humor in a bad meal! Here’s hoping our next dining adventure is much better!
I have no plans to return to this restaurant. Don’t be fooled by the pictures; the food presentation was even worse than expected, and I couldn’t bring myself to take more than one bite of my dish. I also tried the baklava and tea, but the sweetness only made...
Read moreFirst time customer lived in smethwick my whole life and visited the previouse restaurant that used to be here befor AMA Restaurant.
Nice & warm decor and seating.
Food was very dry, bland and lacking in flavour which was disappointing. Sent back the grilled chicken wings meal and asked for it to be removed off the bill as it was inedible, one of the waitress working there came to the table and demanded I pay for it and theres nothing wrong with it, even after sending it back to the kitchen. When asked for a manager the waitress replied she is the manager and made a scene in the restaurant refusing to take it off the bill and demanding that I will be paying for the food that was sent back.
Luckily another much lovelier and more plesant member of staff who overheard the whole situation came and apologised and sorted it out, and the item was removed.
I don't believe the waitress who initially came to the table was the manager as I find it hard to believe giving her customer service skills and attitude to customers. If she is, she needs to be retrained on how to speak to customers and treat them with respect. Disgusting attitude and behaviour from that one member of staff ruined the whole experience, could have been handled better..... like recommending an alternative option. Shame even though the food was not a hundred percent we would have potentially tried something else. But because of how we was treated we won't be...
