Emailed to ask if there is room for wheelchair and if I need to book, was told to enter via an alley next to the ice cream shop. Managed to find the alley, found someone to check to see if we could enter with the wheelchair, came back to directed up the alley, which is not very good for a wheelchair, steep slope with uneven large cobbled slabs, the from wheel got caught a few times. They could lay down rubber matting, which would make life for disabled so much easier. The food was excellent, served hot and delicious along with a drink and bread and butter. Fish was very fresh, shame there was no crab. Coffee was tasty and hot, nice ice cold bottle of water. Staff was very polite, full of smiles, and efficient. Had ice cream on the way out, which was very tasty indeed, but again wheelchair users will have issues getting through the very stiff small double doors. Now the toilet issue, disabled toilet, if the disabled person is in a wheelchair and needs a carer, the toilet door CANNOT be closed, this is not acceptable, I know the building is 300 year old but dignity is more important, the male toilets only allows one user, same with the female which leaves people waiting in a cramped area, some waiting outside queuing where people are eating. I witnessed 6 people waiting to use the bathroom. Overall the food and service is award winning, ideal for hungry tourists and locals alike, but more thought should be taken for wheelchair users, the Anstruther pavements are tricky enough. Please consider an upgrade of toilets and entrance for wheelchairs. Will be back as live within 30 miles.

A lovely fish and chips shop for both takeaway and sit in. I recommend, though I cant compare to the one shortly down the road. A few minor complaints, however. Their F&C comes with 2 pieces of bread (horrendous) and a hot drink, which was nice. Chips were alright, fish was awesome! So light, crispy, and a great portion. They had a "catch of the day" menu. That day, we could get monkfish for 17.30. Seemed extortionate compared to the portion I got, but the actual fish was thick, fleshy and well cooked, so it was alright. They also serve it with a variety of sides, some uncommon like pickled mussels. We didn't get any of these, but I do regret it looking back. Also on their catch of the day menu was fried squid. This was genuinely awesome. Once again, these guys show they know how to batter seafood. The squid was fresh so it wasn't rubbery or squishy, it had a good body and bite. We also had a halloumi fries starter which was probably frozen from a supermarket. I thought the krusty krab style decor was cute. Seats were annoying to get into because they dont move. If someone against the wall needed to go to the bathroom, the next person had to get up so they had space to move out. Service was friendly. Their drinks machine broke down and they could only give me tea, they were polite about the whole thing. My mug in particular had an odd stain which didnt want to come off. Can't comment on their ice cream bar, it seemed reasonabley priced. There is a shop right next to them that does good ice cream and good flavors at a slightly higher price.

We honestly had high expectations after reading about this chippy, but the experience just wasn’t up to par at all. We ordered 4 things from the menu, two of their signature battered haddock, the pittenweem prawns, and the salt & pepper squid. The haddock serving was 1 and a half fish. This is a very generous portion and the batter was nice, crispy, and light. But biting into the fish, we found one of the halves for both our orders to be cooked way too dry. Thankfully the whole fish at the bottom was cooked fine. Then the chips were nothing special to write home about. The pittenweem battered prawns were priced more than the fish n chips, but came in a very small portion. The size of the prawns weren’t very large either. *as seen in photo* The salt & pepper fried squid cost £5.90, but I felt cheated because they only served 7 measly pieces no bigger than a curled pinkie finger. Basically paid 0.84p for each squid, ridiculously priced. The service was stellar and attentive to our needs, the staff were honestly the only part of the place that made the chippy feel like a winner. Later in our day, we heard from one of the locals that it ain’t what it used to be since it changed hands recently. It’s a shame that this shop is a shell of what it used to be, maybe because of sustainability or cutting corners to make ends meet.

If you're looking for delicious fish and chips in a cozy seaside town, look no further than Anstruther Fish Bar. This business is truly exceptional, and their fish and chips are some of the best I've ever had. From the perfectly crispy batter to the tender, flaky fish inside, every bite is a delight. And don't even get me started on the homemade chips - they're the perfect complement to the fish. But that's not all - Anstruther Fish Bar also offers a delicious brown sauce that's the perfect accompaniment to your meal. I'm not sure where you can buy it, but it's definitely worth asking the staff. And if you're a fan of tea, you're in for a treat - their cup of tea is simply fantastic. But what really sets Anstruther Fish Bar apart is the wonderful atmosphere. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the cozy setting makes you feel right at home. It's clear that they take great pride in their work and are dedicated to providing the best possible experience for their customers. Overall, I can't recommend Anstruther Fish Bar enough. If you're in the area, be sure to stop by - you won't be disappointed!

Absolutely the best fish and chips I’ve had. YouTuber foodies are the ones I found out from about this place. Now… you shouldn’t base everything on YouTube videos, but these weren’t sponsored. They were honest reviews and they were correct. I am not sure when I will next eat fish and chips when I go home because these are that good. The people in there are very friendly and helpful. It was great service and everything was perfect. The batter was nice and crispy and the haddock delicious. The ice-cream is something I didn’t know about but I’d recommend having that as it was really, really good. This place has a lot of good reviews and it’s actually honestly correct. Can’t wait to come back. (I will come back tomorrow as still got a couple of days left, but I’ll be coming back here again when next in Scotland. I don’t care if I’m going NW Scotland - I’ll take a detour.) My photos aren’t doing it justice. I was off-centre because I was distracted by enjoying the food.

Reputation for the best fish and chips in Fife. The reputation did not disappoint. The haddock was fried hot and fast to create the perfect crisp batter with delicate moist flakes. My wife ordered the smoked salmon salad, which was presented in a most eye-catching colorful platter. The service was great. It is far better to get a reservation and eat in because you get afew extras like a hot cuppa thrown in. On a sunny day the dinner queue goes all the way round the corner for the dinner takeaway. The in-house decor is simple but does reflect the nautical theme. The fish is locally sourced fresh fish, which certainly does add to the quality. We did a taste comparison with the Wee Chippy down the road on the highsteet. They did have a very pleasant outdoor dining area, which the Anstruther Fish Bar doesn't have. Alas Wee Chippy, the Anstruther Fish bar has better Fish and chips. Turns out--for once--the critics were right!
