I officially declare this the best cafe in the land! I spent 100 days walking the length of Britain and Cafe U was the best I visited! I was craving a salad and fresh food and was blown away by this strawberry and nut salad....I would walk back to Kelso for another one of those! Everything was so beautifully presented, delicious and fresh. Loved the unusual menu options too. Also, as I was eating alone, I couldn't help but hearing what was going on behind the counter as the owners and staff interacted with each other...the way they supported each other and spoke to each other and their young team members was really lovely to hear, especially as they were very busy at the time. Massive kudos to the Cafe U team - you have something very special there. Thanks for fueling me on my way. So glad I stopped by

Cafe U is a gem of a place. It offers a warm welcome and a fantastic food suitable for a number of dietary requirements (vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free). I had African stew and my partner had banana blossom curry. Both were full of flavour and made from fresh ingredients. The menu also included soups, salads, quiches, and slices of sour dough pizza. The coffee was lovely and they made an excellent flat white. I had a pain au choc that was delicious. It had some kind of sweet filling and was topped with nuts. Other baked goods included cheese cakes, tray bakes, scones and sourdough loafs. Service was friendly and efficient. I will definitely visit again when I’m next in the area.

Stopped her for breakfast whilst visiting the farmers market. Unusual seating arrangements with tables scattered everywhere. Friendly enough staff. Menu is basic. Nothing particularly special that stood out to me. I opted for the Brie, cranberry and bacon panini. I asked with no salad but instead, accompanying my panini was 2 slices of melon, about 3 grapes and 3 Doritos - very strange. The panini tasted fine. I also got a mango tango tea which wasn’t nice. My wife got a bacon omelette roll which she said was nice. Tbf we expected better since the reviews are pretty good. They had a good treat selection and sold a few cupboard produce.
