Caledonia Bar - Glasgow Airport — Restaurant in Scotland

What a shame. We've visited here before, and it had always been good.

Today that wasn't the case. We arrived, saying we wanted to eat. The server clearly wasn't listening, and sat us somewhere that wasn't table service. We tried to get her attention, but just pop kept getting told to go to the bar. She could not have been less interested.

We ordered at the bar (they were great), but when the food arrived it was a long way from good. My dish was poached salmon and soft boiled egg - the salmon was frozen in parts and the egg couldn't have been harder boiled. The whole dish was freezing, not room temperature but almost painfully cold to eat. We also had hummus with flatbread, which cam with one small slither of flatbread.

Eventually we cornered someone to ask for more bread and complain about the salmon/egg dish. Initially we were told we had to go back to the bar to order bread. There was not even an acknowledgement of the issues with the salmon dish. Eventually someone helped us by ordering bread, then when the sever came over they charged us 3 pounds for a small bit of flat bread and asked if we wanted to add service. We didn't. After that we were glared at throughout the rest of the meal.

Sarah is an absolute powerhouse of customer service, attentiveness & capability. I was fortunate enough to be greeted by Sarah whilst she was dealing with a demanding client whom she handled with grace & inclusion whilst ensuring I didn't leave for another venue. Once seated, I continued to observe her as I value excellence in people, & with Sarah, it shines out. Nothing is too much bother, she thrives under pressure whilst maintaining operational excellence. Sadly for you, once she went off shift, I observed you lose at least 20+ potential customers in a space of only 10 mins as no one had stepped into the hostess role. The only other person to show initiative from the floor was the bright young manager who was leading from the floor & bar & was also a great receiver & multi tasker. Whilst the rest of your staff on the floor on shift were pleasant & attentive, they really didn't exert the effort & energy this dynamic duo displayed. I'll def come back, though only because I experienced these two in action. The wine & flatbread were good, not as great as Sarah...

Ordered a couple of takeaway coffees at the bar. I would recommend all future customers to do the same… you might- like me- decide never to visit this establishment again.

Whilst I was waiting, a waiter collected a couple of drinks: a pint and a glass of wine. As the beer was poured short, he tapped it on the counter to get a bit of fizz back in to it. Unfortunately it completely overflowed down the side of the glass. No problem - he just carried it off to the customer!

I was also able to catch one of the staff preparing my coffee with the wrong milk, however, there was worse to come: after tapping out the coffee grounds from the previous drink, there was still a large amount of sodden, used coffee grounds on the espresso filter, on to which she simply ground the next portion of coffee. On being challenged on whether she could clean it properly, the justification was: “if we clean it properly we’ll never get anything done”.
