This was very much a tale of two halves. On one hand, we had food we genuinely enjoyed and service that started off strong. On the other, things unfortunately tailed off as the evening went on, leaving us a little disappointed by the end.
We arrived around 8pm to have dinner with friends we hadn’t seen in a while. It took about twenty minutes before anyone came to take our drinks order, which was a little slower than ideal, but the place was busy and we were happily catching up, so we didn’t mind too much.
When the wine waiter arrived, the experience really picked up. We quickly realised we knew him from his time at Sarti’s, and his hospitality and conversation were excellent. He made a great impression.
We ordered our food, and around twenty minutes later, the same waiter came over to say goodbye as his shift was finishing—a nice touch.
But that’s when things started to change. Around 9pm, several staff members appeared to clock off, and the level of service dropped noticeably after that.
Our starters arrived and were delicious, and the mains soon followed, which we all thoroughly enjoyed. The food, in fairness, was excellent throughout.
What surprised us was that, during the two hours we were there, no one came over to ask if we’d like another round of drinks or to offer dessert or coffee. We had to flag someone down for more drinks, and even then the order didn’t arrive until we asked again.
We later realised the restaurant closes at 10pm, which explains why the staff had started cleaning up. However, with a bit more attentiveness earlier on, there would have been plenty of time for us to order another round of drinks and perhaps dessert or coffee before closing.
So overall, while the food and the early service were both excellent, the second half of the evening didn’t quite live up to the start. A shame, really, because the first impression...
Read moreI still remember September 29, 2021, at about 4pm, I went to buy a cake for my friend and asked if any candles were available. The female clerk somehow treated me very badly from the moment I walked in the door because I have an Asian face. Then he kept staring at me and was very aggressive towards me. My English was not good at that time. I asked her if she had any candles, and she directly yelled the word "candles" to me as if she was the only one in the world who could speak English, and then rolled her eyes at me and said no. Later, I deliberately miscalculated the money for the cake and asked me to pay. After I found out, I rolled my eyes and pressed it again. After I paid the money, she quickly ran to the back kitchen to hide. The male clerk beside me saw what had happened to me and didn't say anything and pretended nothing had happened!
After I returned home, I called the store manager later, who said that this matter did not exist. But it was my experience of being humiliated, and I remember it to this day. This restaurant discriminated against Asians, insulted me, and deliberately miscalculated the price!
The clerk acted nothing, and the manager did not apologize. No attitude, not worthy of anyone's praise. All I can say is, if you guys still want to go to this restaurant, please do not bring your Asian friends or friends who are not good at English, or they will laugh at you. I don't know why an Italian restaurant can discriminate so much, I even cried, and no one cared. What a very indifferent restaurant. I can only say to the female staff and the boss and the male staff, I hope your family will receive service like yours when they go to other restaurants. I will never forget that day until...
Read moreCannot tell about the food since we had to leave. I am sure the host of restaurant is expecting me to type this. I told him we were two adults and a child and he clearly saw my son's trike but somehow when we sat on table, he came and said that there were people waiting on the bar and we were 3 people not two and the other option was 5 seat table, so we had to leave. I do not understand why he showed us that table to start with because I clearly told him 2 adults and parked my son's trike with him.
I am not gonna waste my time explaining what kind of restaurants I have been to in the past. It is just quite sad that they have not realized I was a very tired mom with a hungry child and their way of handling the situation was repulsive.
I may also speak for the atmosphere, It is crammed with tables and very hard to move around. You cannot even get an extra chair for a child etc., which I thought they were going to do.
I think they are extremely focused on money and therefore they are squeezing people into a tiny, crammed, badly ventilated restaurant.
This is becoming more and more visible at West End I realized, maybe they started this trend.
There are much better places at city center with tables not poking each other.
Thanks to the American guy, who helped with opening the door and riding the...
