We had fairly high expectations after seeing the high score and reviews on Google, so I feel I have to warn others who may be equally misled.
We really wanted to like this place with its cosy intimate atmosphere and friendly owner but the food was terrible. Maybe we were unlucky with what we ordered, but everything seemed like it had been carelessly thrown together and had very little flavour.
The meze included the standard Mediterranean dips like tsatsiki and hummus, which was particularly poor: it just tasted like mashed chick peas; no garlic or xv olive oil was discernable.
Our mains were even worse. We had both ordered stews with lamb in them, but each had only about a teaspoon of lamb in it. Mine was mostly watery spinach and my wife's was primarily watery chick peas. Interesting ingredients that the menu claimed the stews contained like coriander and cinnamon were apparently absent. They were both very bland.
Our daughter ordered sausage and chips from the kids' menu, which seemed to be grilled frankfurters; and our son ordered a kid's pizza which seemed to perfectly acceptable, although it was tiny, even for a children's portion.
This made me wonder if all the good ratings have come from people ordering pizzas; maybe their pizzas are great. But we always tend towards more interesting food, however our experience of the traditional Persian cooking here was very...

On our trip from Inverness to Glasgow, we discovered Checheks, a charming local Persian Mediterranean restaurant in Aberfeldy. The decor was stunning, transporting us straight to the Mediterranean.
The food was absolutely delicious, with a great variety of vegetarian and vegan options. The owner was exceptionally friendly and made sure we had a wonderful dining experience.
The Kashk Bademjam, an Iranian dish featuring baked aubergines with a special sauce, garlic, and herbs, was a revelation of flavors and textures. The Lebanese Fulmo Damas, a vibrant combination of broad beans, onion, tomatoes, lemon, parsley, and garlic, transported us straight to the Mediterranean coast.
Equally delightful was the Tabsi, a Lebanese medley of aubergine, onion, tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, and parsley, cooked to perfection with Middle Eastern spices.
Checheks is a testament to the rich and diverse world of vegetarian cuisine. Whether you're a dedicated vegan, vegetarian or simply curious to explore new flavors, this hidden gem on the A9 is an...
Read moreWell this was a weird experience while spending a night in Aberfeldy. Looks like a lively little homely place and it is. The guy is helpful and friendly. No alcohol on menu but plenty shops nearby and no charge for corkage. We chose stuffed vine leaves and stuffed aubergine for starter. Both were ok. For main we chose 2 different Iranian lamb stews. While waiting we kept hearing the microwave pinging constantly. Okay things are pre prepared so lets see. The mains arrived and there wasnt much lamb or flavour. Really disappointed. Overall the price was £33 for 2 starters and 2 mains so price wasnt the issue but the taste was so disappointing. I could have done better myself if i had looked for recipes online. Having just left the place i am now standing in a pizza takeaway shop. I think this says it all. I wouldn't go back...
