I had a great experience here today for lunch. I have several food intolerances and normally cannot eat out in restaurants as they are understandably unable to cater for these. However, Coltmans were AMAZING. The person who served us went to check with the kitchen the ingredients in all the delicious looking prepared salads, after writing down the foods I cannot have. He told me that I couldn't have any of these salads but they could prepare a house salad. I expected a few leaves maybe some cucumber/tomato. Well, was I amazed when this beauty of a salad came out. It even had pomegranate seeds! They gave me a little jug of olive oil for the dressing too. One of the most delicious salads I have had. The cod was cooked to perfection too. Would highly recommend this restaurant, especially if you have food intolerances and normally cannot eat much/anything...
Read moreWe were told that the scones were delicious so we made a beeline. They were indeed delicious as was the coffee. I could have happily had more clotted cream for mine but my partner had plenty of butter with his. I'd recommend booking because they were super busy. (I did get some great people watching in!) But I also watched several other "not local" couples being informed in the same way that they were too busy. So whilst I get that local customers are brilliant and will have been your mainstay during covid-19 its important to be equally friendly to those of us visiting the area and, in our case, who are local enough to come again but will choose somewhere...

My guests at Coltman's were from Letchworth Garden City which is just outside London, a bigger town than Peebles but sharing that dubious status as a dormitory town for the big city. They said "Letchworth doesn't have one decent restaurant" and I can think of many other towns in Scotland that don't.
If I was planning a visit to Peebles, this is certainly where I would plan a meal.
It also has a bar, upstairs, where you can enjoy the view of the old town (the High St) but I...
