Duchess of Kirkcaldy — Restaurant in Scotland

Good evening. I'm writing to share my deep disappointment with our dining experience at your restaurant tonight. We were so looking forward to trying the Duchess, especially as it came highly recommended.

Unfortunately, the steak pie was very poor. The meat was tasteless and the flavor was completely absent. The chips were just thick-cut, annd tasted cheap, instead of the andvertised gourmet chips and the 'seasonal vegetables' – the carrots – were served cold.

The service felt rushed; our meals arrived 5 minutes after placing our order and before our drinks. While the staff were friendly, our table was not ideal, we got shoved in a dark corner, when the place was half full.

My guest, who was visiting from out of town, was also very disappointed and couldn't eat much of her meal. The staff member did remove the charge for her meal. £16 each, please see photos attached.

To make matters worse, the bathroom was dirty and one stall had a broken lock. We also witnessed teenagers running through the restaurant to use the toilets in a group and then running back out.

We really regret not trusting our gut and leaving. We had also considered trying Jocks or The Steading, and now wish we had made that choice.

In hopes of spending a nice evening out with my family we visited the "duchess of kirkcaldy" resturant as a coworker had reccomended the place. On first arrival the establishment seemed fine but when it came to taking our order the staff did take a considerable about of time which isn't the best when dealing with hungry kiddies. This on its own wasn't that bad but it was after the food had finally came I started to notice some more problems. The price of the resturant suggests a higher quality of food whereas the meal I was served (steak pie) was not to the level I'd expect. The mash was lumpy and the meat was far too chewy which really put me off leading to an uncomplete meal. From the other side of the resturant we heard some commotion from the other side of the resturant which briefly interrupted our dining experience. It sounded like an older man and from what I later assume to be the resturant manager which in my opinion is deeply unprofessional. 5-10 minutes later another waitress came over to check up on our table and just looked completely uninterested. Wouldn't make eye contact or speak clearly which just created a very negative tone and made me and my family leave feeling unwelcome. Rest assured we will...

My wife and I were on a break for our anniversary and went in for a meal and on arrival we met Gracie who showed us to our table. She took our order and when the food arrived it was amazing and the service from Gracie was first class, she's a lovely girl and we tapped into her local knowledge about where to do some shopping the next day. She told us the best places to go and let us know about the market that local traders put on on a Friday. Everything about the Duchess Kirkcaldy from the ambience, to the food and the music played was outstanding and I'd recommend this establishment to anyone local or even passing through.
