The restaurant itself is very nice and the service is good front of house unfortunately the food doesn't live up to expectations and the general vibe you get from the settings you find yourself in. We had a Fillet steak that was over cooked which is hard to do considering it wasn't busy and frankly sacrilege to a fine cut of meat and pork belly that wobbled like a jelly when it was brought to the table. I accept there will always be a fair.amount of fat with pork belly however I could get a better quality from Aldi down the road. The belly is cut into cubes 2 of those cubes were just pure fat no meat at all and several others were more fat (3 quarters) than meat. It is unfortunate because everything else with it was nice and the flavouring on the pork was good there was just a lack of care and love within the actual quality control of what the kitchen was sending out. To be fair we got a discount due the issues and we fed this all back which hopefully the chef took on board from the apologetic waitress so your visit might be better than ours. We were going to have the pannacotta for dessert but felt as it's quite a difficult dessert to get right and the chef couldn't cook a fillet steak to medium decided not to risk being disappointed by a dessert as well. Real shame as we had high hopes and expected food to fit the setting but alas no. I wouldn't...
Read moreDecided to head to Fennel for a long overdue catch up with my friends. Great service from the moment we arrived. We were welcomed to have a drink on their sofas whist the rest of our party arrived, then taken to our table upstairs. Our waitress was very helpfull throughout the evening, topping up our drinks throughout (their White Zinfandel Rose was lush). We all had a variety of dishes from their menu, which we all enjoyed. My scallops were cooked to perfection (in fact the only restaurant I order them from, as they always cook them right) and my monkfish wrapped in smoky bacon, with pea risotto, tempura broccoli & a tomato & saffron sauce was delicious. Only downside was we were too full to have any of their desserts.
Can see why they got such a good review in the Press & Journal, high recommend and I can't wait for...
Read moreWe had a weekend celebrating our fathers 75th birthday and booked Fennel for the Sunday roast following reading the reviews and the restaurant website.
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the welcome and service was impeccable . Lovely hosts and staff who couldn't do enough.
If we thought the welcome was good the food was even better . Really high quality and accommodated everyone's needs. We had a good selection of the starters which were superb. The mains the party was split between the Sunday roast and steaks with some having the roast and others having steak. The kids meal choices were also great wavlue and a good size portion ( see photos ) .
We will definitely be back as everything was amazing and we were all that full we couldn't manage a dessert.
Thanks again for an outstanding experience and high...
