JP's Deli and Cafe — Restaurant in Scotland

The rudest staff I've ever experienced. Whilst waiting in the queue for a table for 2, the people waiting in front informed us that they were waiting for a takeaway, so politely let us go ahead into the cafe as we were eating in (I couldn't see through the back if there was a table available). I stepped forward to peer around the corner only to be shouted at by the guy behind the counter extremely aggressively telling me that there were other people waiting in the queue before me and that I should get back in the queue. I was really taken aback, and found it extremely embarrassing to be shouted at in front of all the customers. Needless to say I did not rejoin the queue and will not be giving my custom to these people again. I'll be advising others to stay away as this was one of the worst experiences ive had. I would honestly recommend customer service training to the staff here as the current standard...

We stopped in here today on a day trip to North Berwick. The food was lovely, but I think the service needs to be worked on. No welcome or hello when we walked in, understand people are busy. We were lucky to get a table, it had previous people's plates etc on it, but that was no problem, got barked at by staff to wait until they had cleared it. At the end there was a mix up with another table's bill, the member of staff at the till was really short with the customer even though it was there mistake and then berated a younger staff member in front of everyone for having 'terrible handwriting'. Not even a goodbye or a thank you at the end. But, the bacon roll was good, so don't let bad service stop you from going in if it has a table on busy days. Similar to other reviews service could be improved. Arrived at 15:25, greeted with “what do you want we close at 4”, we replied with just a quick coffee please, “well I’m turning the coffee machine off in 5 minutes”. Came across rude and unwelcoming. Rather than “just to let you know we close at 4pm, you are welcome to have a coffee before I switch the machine off”. So we didn’t stay and went to Whynot instead, friendly staff, fabulous coffee, delicious scones and donuts, we chose to be out by 4pm to drive...
