Everything about our visit here was 'okay'. It definatley didn't live up to the hype we'd heard.
The waitress explained that the food was tapas style, intended for sharing and brought out as cooked. This idea would probably work fine for couples but as a party of four with an awkward vegetarian (me) it didnt go down that way. Most of the options came out in 'twos' which would have been challenging and messy to split 4 ways anyway. What it meant was that some of us got our food before others. We employed the 'eat it while it's hot rule'. If returning I'd suggest ordering some chips and dip for the table so everyone had something to nibble on.
My drunken bean and queso quesadilla was bland. Thankfully they had hot sauce on the table. I ordered a side of guacamole during the meal to compensate for the lack of flavour however it took a while to come and came with a basket of chips... when i only wanted the dip. It would have been nice to have guacamole, salsa and sour cream as optional extras... without the chips. My butternut squash tostada was a bit better but i wasn't keen on the crunchy tortilla. I'll put that down to bad ordering though.
The big disappointment was the churros. A poor imitation to the 'real deal' we'd had recently in Malaga. If Mexican churros is meant to be dry and chewy I'll stick exclusively to the Spanish version.
The experience would probably have been much improved had we been able to take advantage of the tempting cocktail list. Saddly 3/4 us were driving.
We ate everything and it was generally 'nice' just not great. I'd return if a friend really wanted to go but i won't be ranting and raving...
Read moreNo photos of the eaten plate this time. I was gifted a mas voucher for my birthday in August 2023 and decided to keep it for January 2024 to use on Mas @ home as we were expecting a baby. A meal that you heat and eat is a very good thing in those first few weeks!
Well, first was the voucher: really glad we didn't wait any longer as it turned out the cold hard cash with no end date was only valid for 6 months. A really short time and given it wasn't for a fixed meal but a fixed value towards the bill, if prices changed during a longer valid duration this would not be a problem so I think this could change to at least 12 months.
Onwards to the food; I bought the fiesta box which had 4 tacos and 2 quesadillas, as well as a nacho sharing platter.
Really, on the nachos just make half the amount and save the rest for day 2, it was so much we put half of it in the bin because we just couldn't eat no more.
The tacos were delicious, great flavour and really enjoyed The quesadillas on the other hand felt more like a tortilla cheese toastie where it was the salsas and pickled red onion that did all the flavour. Maybe that's the intention with the quesadillas here, especially as they need to be suitable to finishing cooking at home when ready to eat, so a tricky one. Overall they were still very enjoyable, but I would have rather than another batch of tacos!
The staff whilst I collected were lovely and the restaurant seemed like a great place to dine that I would like to do in...
Read moreThis restaurant offers a delightful Mexican culinary experience with their delectable array of tacos, quesadillas and tostadas. During my visit, I had the pleasure of trying their Baja fish taco and beef birria, accompanied by crispy spiced potatoes and spicy chicken wings.
Starting with the Baja fish taco, I found the fish to be fresh and nicely marinated. While I personally prefer a slightly crispier texture, the flavors were still enjoyable, and the fish maintained its natural taste. The taco was well-balanced, and the accompanying toppings added a pleasant touch to the overall flavor profile.
Moving on to the beef birria, I was immediately impressed by the rich and savory taste of the minced beef. It was incredibly flavorful, and the delicious birria sauce provided a deep and satisfying complement. The combination of tender beef and robust seasonings made this taco a standout choice.
The crispy spiced potatoes were perfectly fried, boasting a satisfying crunch while retaining a soft interior. They were seasoned with a delightful blend of spices, adding an extra dimension of flavor. As for the spicy chicken wings, they were well-marinated, offering a delightful kick of spiciness without overpowering the taste buds.
Throughout my visit to Mas, the attentive service and inviting atmosphere added to the enjoyment of the meal. The restaurant's commitment to providing flavorsome Mexican cuisine is evident in the well-prepared dishes and the thoughtful combinations of...
