Regular place to go for meals. Though the two course lunch menu is only for starter and a main. I wanted a starter and dessert. But it wasn't allowed. So it ended up a three course meal from the lunch menu, as friend ordered a main dish. They put order through as one three course from lunch menu. I'd the starter 'bang bang cauliflower and sticky toffee pudding with custard for dessert. At least bill was done as one person, so cost wasn't as high as she only ate main dish, the buttermilk chicken burger. Which she really enjoyed.
I thought the cauliflower was too well done. Burnt bits, too crunchy for me. Rather they'd big pieces of cauliflower dipped in batter than chopped up version they served. As I'd too many bits that were mostly batter and tiny pieces of cauliflower and too crunchy for my taste. Otherwise it would of been good. I did tell person who took plates, she said she'd tell kitchen.
For dessert we had the sticky toffee pudding, me with custard and ice cream with the other sticky toffee served to table. I enjoyed it, though I could taste the treacle flavour quite strongly. Custard helped mask strong flavour. Other sticky toffee pudding tasted much more treacly with ice cream. The one who ordered it, didn't like the stronger flavour with the toffee sauce. But it was okay with pal who ate what was left of the dessert. They did agree had strong treacle flavours with sauce. But managed to eat it. Think we all agreed it needed to be sweeter flavour or not as much treacle added? Otherwise would of been really good dessert. Had nice sized piece of toffee sponge with plenty of toffee sauce. They both had main dishes, hot honey chicken burger and buttermilk chicken burger. Both really enjoyed their burgers. None left on plate. So it was a bit hit and miss for me with starter and all of us in agreement about toffee sauce. Just that bit too strong with treacle flavour, we missed sweetness from toffee sauce.
Otherwise it would of been really good. As sponge was lovely, soft inside and nice texture. Just the sauce a let down.
They had good access to restaurant and car park had plenty disabled parking spaces as well as usual parking spaces. Nice display at entrance with flowers. Good to see as weather changes and less colour in...
Read moreI go here sometimes with my dad, or the oerson I support, both are wheelchair users. We haven't had any access problems, though I noticed the disabled parking had only one space left on my most recent visit and only one of the cars in the disabled bays had a badge on the dash. So it could do with a bit of policing.
Last visit I had the mixed grill and my gran had the gammon.
Good portion sizes, chips were nice and crunchy without being burnt, and not the skinny malinky ones you would get in a fast food place.
Sausages were pretty good but with a slight taste of hot dog about them. Gammon was good, not salty or tough. Chicken was moist and flavourful. Steak was a bit on the small size and very well done where I wanted medium-well. My black pudding was an endy bit, average black pudding...you can tell the difference with a good one, but it wasn't greasy or burnt. Onion rings were fine size and not like lava inside, which was good. I had peppercorn sauce, it was ok, but I don't think I'd have the sauce again.
My gran enjoyed her meal, her gammon was good, and a good portion. She enjoyed the chips too. She got two eggs, one of which was slightly undercooked so she gave it to me. She would have liked a piece of pineapple on her plate with one egg rather than two eggs...she suspected they might have ran out of pineapple.
Service was good, sometimes there's a bit of a wait to get the bill, but friendly and...

The waitress told us that what we wanted wasn't available. I changed completely, my mate went for the turkey option. When the food arrived, mine was as ordered. My mates was, well, to be honest, pitiful. 2 bits of turkey 4 spuds a yorkshire pud and peas. When he enquired about the rest of the dinner he was told "sorry we have run out of....... (several items listed)" This should have been brought to his attention prior to the meal being presented to him. That way, he would have had the option to change his mind. When asked for feedback, I said, "My food was spot on, but my mate only got half his meal" So what happened in response?? Nothing, no offer of maybe a pudding to make up for it nope nothing. Full price charged and off you go! Sadly, not a good customer experience at all. 02/08/2024 I am very happy to amend my review from several days ago. I made contact as requested, and as we were back in the area at the end of out motorbike tour of Scotland went in had a chat about our issue from the other day and then sat down to a lovely meal in a pub that I am quite happy to give a 5 star rating which it deserves. We'll be back next year for dinner and a pint when on tour...
