I’m sad to leave this review as I thoroughly enjoy this restaurant. I’ve spent a few of my birthdays here and I’ve always recommended it to my friends, but I had a rather unpleasant experience recently which has put me off the place. Yesterday me and my friend went for drinks and we had no issues. The drink was great and we had no problem with our ID’s which are always needed as we both don’t look 18. Today we went again for lunch and I was surprised when my friend came back from ordering to tell me that her YoungScot card was apparently (according to staff) not a valid source of ID. I was also shocked to find out that you are apparently not allowed to be in the restaurant without a guardian if you’re under 18 even if you’re not ordering alcohol. Not even to have lunch. The reason this baffles me so much is because I’ve been here several times without a guardian and have had no issues until today. The staff told my friend that we should not have been served the previous night due to her YoungScot card, despite it being up to date and clearly giving proof of her age. After all this I went up to order our desserts and one of the staff members was giving me a dirty look. It made me feel uncomfortable, insignificant, and small. I did not feel welcome in the pub/restaurant.
I will no longer be recommending the Old...
Read moreI was out for a drive and googled places to eat in Alloa and this place had some good food reviews. So I gave it a shot and glad that I did. It was Monday lunchtime and the place was relatively quiet, although most people were eating. Good sign. They do a lunch menu with wraps, fries and a drink for £7.49. Excellent, although we went for the standard menu. We had cheeseburger with bacon and a balmoral burger, which came with a fair old serving of haggis. Both came with fries and onion rings and had 2 burgers on each. They were excellent and cost less than £11.00 (each). Very very reasonable. The staff were very friendly and the service was great. Definite worth a visit if you’re in the area and looking for great food at a...
