Best fish & chips we've had (and we've had a few!) headed here after the tractor run & the place was packed but we found an empty table & decided to sit in. Considering how busy they were, we were served in good time. Batter was lovely & light served with proper chip shop chips. The decor is like an American diner, something like out of happy days with an old jukebox to complete the look. They also do ice creams of fabulous flavours which also makes their milkshakes! I was waaay too full to have one sadly but could have gone back just for ice cream another day. They also have pick & mix, we got a £5 bags worth, very heavy! It will be a definite stop when we're in the area.

Horrible man works there he was very rude to me and when they got my order completely wrong they didn’t give me a refund. I’m horrified with the man’s attitude he done the one thing you never do mouthed off to a customer

The sea food platter looked really nice on the website. However calamari were breaded as were the prawns and looked over done. Huge amount of chips didn't help justify the £8. Shame really. Could have been great.

Staff here are friendly and helpful.

We sat in to eat as they had lovely booths and a big selection of ice creams.

We ordered two curry sauces thinking that between the four of us that would be about right, well they are huge pots and I think we could have managed with one. They have a choice of curry sauce which I can't help but love because then everyone gets the sauce they want - Chip Shop and Chinese.

We ordered a battered smoked sausage super, a nuggets super, a macaroni pie and chips as well as a battered sausage super.

Batter was perfect, lovely and flaky and crunchy.

The card machine wasn't getting a signal and due to covid I'm not in the habit of carrying cash just now so I had to pop next door to farmfoods and get cash back, other option is an ATM but it was a little further away and I'm on crutches, either way not a huge deal, these things happen.

We also got take away ice creams which were very well received. They have an amazing selection of flavours including after eight and Turkish delight, very impressed. They were eaten too quickly for photos I'm afraid.

Will be back next time I'm...

Dont think we will be back, this place wears too many hats, is it pizza? Chippy? Cafe? Icecream? Take out? Table service? The topping slid right off the pizza, the panini was burnt, I asked the waitress to come over to the table so I could speak to her and to order drinks, she never came back! 3 staff standing behind the counter just watching the food being cooked. Tables not cleaned once people left, we just picked the least dirty one to sit down at. At this point I just gave up with this place. Was asked rudely if everything was ok as I was clearly looking disgruntled when waiting to pay, never even bothered complaining I just wanted to get out of there, based on previous bad reviews the owner responded to on here, this review wont be taken seriously and he will just leave a sarcastic comment....

I visited this cafe with my cousins, we had 2 combos between us. Could not fault it…lots of variety, chicken, squid, fish, sauces, scampi etc. certainly value for money. Excellently cooked and not at all greasy. We were seen to very quick and didn’t have to wait long before the food arrived. Although the young waitress said it was only her second shift she was so friendly and lovely. I loved the old fashioned look of the cafe, it has plenty of character with lovely, hard working staff.

My only comment would be, that on the menu it doesn’t mention you get chips with the combo, and we ordered a separate dish, ending up with way too many. But all in all I would certainly recommend the Palmerston, and hopefully I’ll visit again when I’m...
