I am visiting Dumfries for a short holiday. When I got off the train and walked around the town I was really happy to find a craft beer bar. To be honest I am never sure how friendly more traditional pubs will be. Craft beer bars welcome everyone and they have the best tasting beer so, they are my comfort zone. I have been to The Riverside Tap twice in two days and I might even fit in another visit before I leave. The location is great right in the centre of town. The interior is clean, comfortable and relaxing. There is a very respectable range of beers on tap that taste clean and well maintained. They also have a nice range of local, collab and further afield brewery options in cans and bottles which you can drink in or take home. The bar staff are really excellent - very friendly and knowledgeable. They will find you the right beer if it is possible - you might need to be open to more than bog standard lager and bitter but why not give other beers a try? I know some people are shocked by the price of some craft beers when they first come across them. I was too. It took me awhile but when I tried my first really good rich, complex imperial stout or that first citra pale ale that fired up those taste buds on the side of my tongue that I didn't know were even there - I was hooked. Craft beer is about small, independent artisan brewers creating beer that is full of passion and flavour. Every town needs at least one great craft beer bar. If The Riverside Tap was one of my locals, I'd be thrilled. When I recommend Dumfries to my friends as a place to visit (which I will cos it is a lovely city) I'll be sure to send them...
Read moreWe visited on 24th June 2023. I'm not really a beer drinker but my brother and husband are, and they were both really impressed and enjoyed a few different beers. The bar staff were lovely and let us take our time with trying samples before buying. I wasn't drinking alcohol and the lady behind the bar kindly talked me through some of the alcohol free options with as much care and attention as if I was buying alcohol which I really appreciated as I sometimes feel a bit out of place not drinking in places like this! The atmosphere here is informal and comfortable, very relaxed yet you feel like you're somewhere 'nice', we loved the background music and could have happily sat here all night. We are not local but were made to feel very welcome by the staff and the other customers. Toilets very clean. Can't think of any negatives at all! We'd planned to come back on our final night in Dumfries but it was closed, but we will definitely be back if we're in...
Read moreHighly recommend a visit to this great establishment in Dumfries. My wife and I popped on a really sunny day. The locally brewed lager went down a treat sitting outside in the sun. Didn't get the batman's name but we was really pleasant, gave good advice on the drinks available and enjoyed a joke. The pub stocks an excellent range of IPA, beers and the odd cider as well as a small range of spirits. We noticed they also do live music. A great example of how a pub should be run....
