Pie Bobs — Restaurant in Scotland

I'm not exaggerating or anything here, I'm mentioning exactly how it was for me. You can make your own mind up about it. This review is about Arbroath Pie Bobs Cafe and Takeaway. Its the first time I tried out the Cafe bit. I went into the Arbroath Pie Bobs cafe on a Sunday afternoon for my dinner. The place has a cafe bit and a takeaway bit, all under the same roof, right beside each other. Both cafe and takeaway bits serve hot food. I drove about 20 miles from Dundee ( no Pie Bobs in Dundee). I was desperately needing the toilet. So I went in to the cafe bit, and says I'm needing to go to the toilet first, before I order up food. I was told " sorry the toilet is for customers only ". I said I need to go first ,then I'll order up. ( I was bursting for the toilet) I was told " sorry our kitchen for hot food is closed now , we only serve up coffee and cakes". ( at 3:30pm in the middle of the afternoon) I had to go to toilet ,so i went to the toilet ,as I couldn't hold it in any longer. After that I said ,I need hot food, from the takeaway bit. I got an unfriendly look from the staff member that I spoke to earlier, as I walked to the takeaway bit for food for my dinner. ( I was hungry). After purchasing hot food from Pie Bobs takeaway bit, I then went to the Pie Bobs cafe bit , right next to the takeaway bit ,and said can I have a coffee and cake to go with this hot food please. I was told swiftly and immediately ,that I cannot eat that in here , as they pointed directly at the hot food I just purchased from Pie Bob takeaway bit, right next to the Pie Bob cafe bit. I just walked out after that. I eat my hot food in my car instead . The hot food was fine. 2 star rating from me Star 1 :- the hot food I got was fine Star 2 :- the price for it, was what I kinda of expected to pay, in this day and age, for it.

I left this exact wording review, and 2 star , of my experience on the google review, of the Arbroath Pie Bobs Cafe and Takeaway. That's what happened anyway You can make your own mind...

Staff friendly store clean good choice of pies bridies sandwiches sweet cakes etc. I have been an avid buyer especialy cornish pasties as when each week i meet with friend i taje one dor everyone there. We eat them old ir place them in an oven to reheat them. Butlast time i was in arbroarh store and lije this week it was a monday evening i bought 6 and 5 today but was agast 2 weeks ago when i was cutting off the ebds as the dry pastry it hard for the persin i was giving a pasty to to eat but one end i had to do 5 cuts to even see a sign of the filling so i removed the top to find thd filling was lless than a tablespoon full yhen today i went in to buy 6 more only 5 available i asked if hey had more as ones on display were extreamly pale dudnt look as if they had been given a cover of wash and was told they were all like that bexause people lije to warm them...i said i had bought these nany times bever had they been so pale and laxk luster even when browned a golden cokour and we have warmed them in an oven hey never got dark or burnt i tben told her about the last time i had bought from that store the disapointment of content and quality though it had got a nice colour to pastry. I then showed the photos taken of the pasty all she could do was appologise and say i needed to go back and see manager....so a 26 mile round trip as she could not give any form of compensation onky a manager who was nit there..strange for a 24 hr bakery shop!! I explained my normal store was montrose but was told i had o go back to arbroarh...not good customer relations i have been in retail management worked my way up and we always did our upmist to listen and respond quickly to keep the customer happy i mean a pasty which is under £2 surely the persin left in store should have been allowed to give compensation when needed. I also noted that there are no pruces just nanes of pies etc infront of each on display why are they not pricing each all other stores have to price goods...

Always loved going from Forfar to Arbroath for pies and cakes at Pie Bobs, but seems to have lost that part that made it so fantastic. Like many once up the ladder of success the drive to please falls by the wayside. I have no doubt for those with no interest in anything other than simply stuffing a pie in their mouths that the service and attitudes are good enough to this day.

Bad service from staff who clearly see most as an interruption to their evening. Food was given heat, on eating from the 4 pies, one was warm, two were warm outer with inner and base cold to the chill, one complete cold.

Clearly an effort to warm pies, time gone by this was never an issue, cold food, service just as cold ... atmosphere only for those in to play with the two younger girls hanging around in background looking like they ran the show.

Was always my favourite ... I will try once more but if this is the way of a business as it rises to success then im afraid im done with it.

I am sure Pie Bobs couldnt care less as a few customers move away from them, but I think it should be a clear sign this drop in standard eventually leads to high quality shop such as Pie Bobs going down hill to becoming a towns "Grease stained bus stop cafe".

Hope these awful dropped standards seen tonight 9th March 2024 dont become the new white van and truck driver style standard...
