Poonthai's — Restaurant in Scotland

Just plain rude.

We had been going to this restaurant for years and we knew the family well. Then it changed hands and to be polite, went downhill at super-speed. Recently we got told it’s starting to improve.

We were so excited to get a takeaway, to be told they don’t deliver, because it’s not worth their while. However if it’s a big order they would consider it…I can imagine how many customers old and new they have lost due to “it’s not worth our time”.

Most people would willingly pay 3 or 4 quid to get a really decent takeaway, but after hearing “it’s not worth our time”. It seems you are not worth the customers time with...

We went on a Sunday evening at the end of April, so weren't massively surprised to find the restaurant empty when we arrived and that it remained empty until a few minutes before we left.

The food was really nice and not expensive, although the Singha beer was a bit pricey at £4.15 for a 330ml bottle.

Just one gripe - there is a sign on the door that says "American Express cards welcome" and our bill was presented in a bill wallet with the American Express logo on it, but guess what? They don't take American Express cards! If you don't take the card, don't advertise (twice)...

The takeaway from Poonthai in North Berwick was undoubtedly the worst Thai food I have ever had. It was bland, cold and had no hint of Thailand cuisine. I didn’t even eat more than a mouthful. My wife was more brave than me and stopped after two spoons full. I don’t even think it was worth one star. The restaurant was completely empty. Now I know why. I will never eat from there again.
