Scotts Restaurant had been recommended to us. We thought we would try it on a recent trip to Troon. We drove through the entrance gates and parked in the generous car park at the Marina, this instantly made us feel quite exclusive. We walked to the entrance, enjoying the views of the marina and the boats docked there. On entering the restaurant, through doors saying “Welcome aboard” the colour scheme, lighting, and warmth of the place instantly attracts you and you want to be part of this club.

We were met and were delighted to be shown to a large table with breath taking views of the marina. The restaurant was spotlessly clean, and the staff were well presented and polite. We were given menus and ordered our drinks. The menus they were clean and clear, and each dish had a description, so you very quickly discovered you were spoilt for choice. We had also been given a discounted menu with excellent choices, could things get any better?

We ordered our starter and main course, and our drinks were served. My husband loved his soda water and lime. Our food was delicious, we slowly savoured every mouthful. The flavours were so exciting, and each had an additional flavours that you had not experienced before. To the point that you enjoyed every flavourful bite. The main course was served and again it did not disappoint, you began to realise that you could have made any choice off the menu and would love it! Each mouthful was moreish, and your desires were met. The service was perfection, a very slow comfortable pace to let you enjoy your excellent experience to the full. Then the dessert arrived, I had selected sticky toffee pudding, the plate arrived. As each course had got better and better this course should have had a drum roll. It was a warm date and treacle pudding smothered in butterscotch sauce and beside it was a portion of clotted cream ice cream, in addition you were provided a pouring pot of more warm butterscotch sauce, in my mind I though oh my goodness but as I was thinking this my hand had reached out and started to pour on the additional sauce all over my pudding , this created a sea of warm sauce that gently melted the ice cream allowing you to spoon a slice of pudding, ice-cream and sauce in to your ever grateful mouth. We ended our meal with a celebration coffee, I had a Latte and my husband a cappuccino, these were creamy and had a rich taste and smell. A pleasure. The service and ambience of this place, we did not want to leave. We cannot recommend it enough. So much so that we returned two days later and had breakfast, it also hit the target and we recognised customers who had been there on our previous visit, a popular place, thank you Scotts. Hopefully see...

We visited Scotts Troon for what turned out to be our last dinner together in a restaurant, as my wife tragically lost her battle with cancer a month later. I wanted this to be a memorable and romantic evening, but unfortunately, the experience was marred by rude and dismissive service. I would've been my usual self by standing up and leaving, but my wife wasn't feeling her best, and insisted on enjoying a night out together even still. So I chose not to make a scene.

Upon arrival, we were seated right next to the door, which wasn’t an issue initially. However, the intense heat from their heating system was unbearable, blasting directly onto us and making it impossible to enjoy our meal. When we politely asked to be moved, we were told there were no available tables because the restaurant was fully booked. This turned out to be untrue, as we observed several unoccupied tables during the hour and 15 minutes we were there. The refusal felt unnecessary, and the staff’s attitude came across as cold and, frankly, judgey.

What made the treatment even harder to understand was that we were well-dressed and ready to enjoy a lovely evening together. Ironically, some of the other diners were in shorts and T-shirts, yet we felt we were being looked down upon. It made us wonder if the staff were uncomfortable with us as a married lesbian couple. We were polite and respectful throughout, but the vibe we received left us feeling unwelcome and excluded.

The only saving grace of the evening was the food and drinks, which were undeniably excellent. We shared the haggis starter (my first time trying haggis) and a parfait starter – both delicious. For mains, we had six langoustines, which were beautifully cooked and flavourful. Dessert was equally stunning, with the Amalfi mess and brownie torte stealing the show. Paired with some perfectly mixed French martinis, the meal itself was outstanding.

It’s quite shameful that what should have been a lovely, special dinner together, was overshadowed by unkind and dismissive service.

Scotts Troon has potential with its excellent food, but the hospitality and treatment we received will forever tarnish our memory of the place.

For that reason, I'm only giving it 1...

Overpriced mediocre food. You’d be better off going weather-spoons or get yourself some fish and chips and save your money.

So we decided to visit south west Scotland for a few days and searched all the local restaurants for seafood options (and there aren’t many … don’t know why) and this had great reviews however the food simply wasn’t good enough and we paid £100 for it! The staff were great though

This restaurant follows a trend that We have noticed in the last 10 years where restaurants dress there food up in an “insta-tastic” manner but simply don’t have substance to support their photos.

We started with pawn tempura (clearly frozen). Then a gambil pil pil which was essentially frozen pawns in a cheap sweat and sour sauce. While we also had figs with feta (strangely they only served us 1 and half fig, why not the full 2???) each of these dishes tasted like basic takeaway food yet they were £9 each.

For our main we had langoustines with chips and half lobster (why half? Clearly it will be pre cooked and frozen) both of these dishes lacked seasoning and the sauce was incredibly weak. While equally the chips were cheap frozen chips I’d expect at weatherspoons yet both of these dishes were £30 each.

I have no idea why they think this food is good enough to command this price. For an extra £30/40 you could be eating in a top restaurant In Edinburgh. And to top it off we had to go to Morrisons (which is very close) to buy a sandwich as we we’re still hungry after. This place is best avoided.

I’ve given this review 2 stars and I would’ve given it 1 if it wasn’t for...
