My wife and I visited Spice tonight as a last minute decision . We had been there before around 4 years ago. Very disappointed tonight. Poor quality in every area, from a " can't be bothered " meet and greet. To some pretty poor quality food. We shared some Spiced Onions and Poppadoms to start, onions were somewhat aged i my opinion. We then had a standard curry each ( approximately business lunch size) which was heavily salted ( never a good sign) and poor quality chicken. We shared a portion of Rice and a Nan Bread. My wife had 2 beers I had a still water. When the bill arrived for £46 I was somewhat bemused but paid it as I was presented with the card machine and bill at the same time. Probably my biggest shock was a charge of £5.50 for a portion of a poor quality microwave rice. Before leaving my wife asked the waiter where the ladies was, and rather than , say where it was he just pointed dismissively and walked away. I understand anyone can have an off night but my oh my how the standards have fallen at Spice at a time when perhaps they should be trying to stand out in...
Read moreVery poor service, and the food was awful. Visited with a work colleague and he ordered a Chicken Tikka Massander, I ordered a Chicken Tikka Garlic Chilli Masala, we are both convinced they served us the same curry, I ordered the spice special rice and my colleague ordered a mushroom rice, mine had peas and peppers and was oily and presented on the main plate rather than being able to take rice onto the plate as needed. Looked like same rice, with some different big thrown in. Although I had ordered chicken tikka, I found small bones in the food and I think the food was very oily, can't describe the horrible aftertaste. I visited the washroom to clean my hands and toilets further underpinned my view of this place. How this restaurant has 4 stars, I will never know. The worst service and food I have had in an Indian restaurant for a...
Read moreLamb tikka starter was okay, quite large slices of meat but not exactly succulent and lacking any depth of flavour. The biryani was basic. Literally just some rice mixed in with some chicken. I can't really call this a biryani as it obviously wasn't cooked using a proper method, and as a result it had very little flavour. I'm not convinced they know what a biryani is, either that or they don't have the skill, or motivation to make one. If I'd have bought it off the shelf in Tesco I'd have been disappointed. Adding to that the poor ambiance of the restaurant; interior design has an air of the Travel Lodge about it, music is a Heart FM play list. Nothing here...
