Nice small cafe in Dunoon. Food was excellent. I had a backed potato with haggis and chedder, which was excellent. Others had burgers, mac and cheese, baked potato with chicken which were also said to be excellent. Kids meals were bit underwhelming but OK. Service was excellent. Prices were reasonable. There is no parking on site or in the street next to the cafe. There are few car parks which charges 1 pound per hour. We founs there are ample parking on the streets on the residential area above the town centre just a 2 minute walk.

The place is clean. The food is ‘not’ greasy. The staff are average. When you charge £3.50 for two teas they should be top value…they weren’t. Scrambled was bland. Square sausage half the size of a barely buttered roll. Macaroni cheese tasteless. Chips? Forget it! I do not like bringing places down but fairs fair, if you charge £40 for two adults and two children under the guise of cafe, make it good quality even if its not value for money. Needless to say, I will give other establishments a go next time.

• Order Pictured - 2 rolls n bacon and an empire biscuit. I actually came here twice for breakfast because it was so good the first time. • Time - 45 mins in the place. Quick service • Presentation - see pics, brilliant. • Quality - 5/5 - brilliant quality. Tasted amazing. • Quantity - 4/5 - brilliant they actually have 3 big thick slices of bacon in them, the empire biscuit was average. • Value for money - great value. I didnt take a note of the price.

Was very disappointed with this cafe ordered the wee breakfast, it stated on the menu that it came with haggis. There was no haggis when the food arrived. All the food on the plate was cold including the sausage , black pudding, and toast. Very poor quality sausage, was the cheapest frozen sausages you can get. Very expensive for what came, never again will I use this cafe.

To add after owners response:

Not a fake review, I sat at table 7 and for your legal information track and trace forms are not to be used for any other reasons than covid for nhs Scotland.

I am a public health officer and am very happy to return with my credentials, however this is a review as a customer and if the food we received was freshly cooked then it must have been left on the side to go cold for ten minutes.

A bit of business advice , don’t call a...

Went for breakfast, food was average; some bits overcooked and normal breakfast items (beans and mushrooms) cost extra. They forgot the beans and hash browns and had to bring them out separately. Didn't tell us that tea was included so we ordered additional drinks. We only noticed about the tea after eating as they didn't bring it to the table but refused to include the drink we had ordered as it was our fault for not noticing??? Not sure what stands for customer service here but that's ridiculous. Dogs are allowed in but there's a big sign about not allowing children to play with sauce packets due to "hygiene"... Really??? Service was slow. Wondered if we got treated differently because we were English. Shame as we've just moved here and won't...

In Dunoon for a few days and whilst out walking with our cockapoo we came across The Swallow Cafe and not only was it dog friendly but served vegan food as well. The staff could not have been any more friendly and welcoming. Benji was fussed over and given water and doggy biscuits while we looked over the menu. The food was freshly cooked and delicious and very reasonably priced. Although it was very busy, we didn’t feel rushed or pressured to leave. When we were leaving we bought some vegan ice cream which is home made by the cafe and it was superb. Thoroughly recommend a visit if you are in Dunoon. We will definitely return next time...
