To start, the fish pakoras were tasty and crispy and poppadoms were fresh and also crispy. However the mains were terrible - one of our dishes was supposed to be medium hot but was so hot it ruined the meal immediately and the person in our party who ordered it couldn't eat anything after the first bite - I sampled it as I have a much higher heat tolerance and it was way to hot for me too. It was taken off the bill but to be honest we should have complained about other items. The fish south east chili dish had a congealed sauce and the fish seemed frozen and refrozen - it was rubbery in texture and hard to cut through. The prawns in butter sauce were equally rubbery and a few of them I literally couldn't even cut through them. The naan breads were dry and felt stale, my spicy paratha was also dry and just had a strange sauce smeared over it to make it spicy. We left most of our food on the table - I don't know how this restaurant has survived for so many years - it really was one of the worst food experiences we've ever encountered - I'm actually embarrassed for them. The young waiters were friendly and apologetic but we should have spoken to a manager about the food but honestly couldn't wait to get out of there...
Read moreWent to the Taj for a meal with 3 of my friends on a weekend away, eventually when someone came to the table we ordered drinks (1 coke, 1 lemonade, 1 mojeto and 1 strawberry daiquiri) which took 15 minutes to arrive. Then it took a further 15 minutes to take our order for food. Ordered starters, honey chicken x 2, mushroom pakora x1 and l ordered chicken pakora which was never chicken pakora. Called the waiter over to send it back stating that this was not chicken pakora and he stood arguing with me that it was !, he then stated that 'did l want chicken breast pakora' well yes that's what l asked for not this crap. Brought out the correct pakora eventually. Food was mediocre, filthy dish towel which staff wiped the plates with. (We should have probably left at that point). Took ages to clear the first set of plates. Not the best curry we have ever had and not the cheapest £135.00 all in all very, very, very disappointed 😞. The quickest attention we got was when we got up to leave, there quick as a flash to pick up the bill. Would never return to the Tag in Prestwick. We would have been better going back to the Golf Inn as food and...
Read moreI don’t want to give an unfair review… I’ll give it 4 due to the food (it was excellent) and the speed it came out of the kitchen.
Pros - food, speed,location
Cons - yes we did go on a Saturday night (we felt like we were in a nightclub) drinks are cheap so understandable it was busy, but people kept making ‘friends’ from the bar (really drunk) and coming into the restaurant. Everyone was shouting above the music and it was so loud. share a naan between two - they are large we said we had to leave quickly to catch a train and could we take food away - waitress said yes and took away all dirty plates - we all looked at each other like really… why wouldn’t you box the leftover food first as opposed to dirty plates ??? - and she said she would send someone else over to help. Someone else came over - asked to take food away she said she would be back to box it and took the last dirty plate in her hand only …. Bizarre This is now 20 mins after paying bill. Had to leave food and left.
Food is great, maybe go weekday as it may be quieter. Don’t expect takeaway as servers don’t understand the...
