update. Ive since returned twice to this venue since my review. The service was fantastic and the food was first class. I ordered the same dish as before and it was perfect both times. Im willing to put the first visit down to a bad day for them and given the improvement and better quality of food I'm updating my review as 5 star. I am leaving the original review for transparency.
5/5 for the new design and the fantastic layout of the new premises. 4/5 for the standard of service and for the cleanliness of the tables, toilets etc. 1/5 for the food and even that is being generously given for the lovely pot of tea I had. Overall I am only giving it 2/5, the food seriously let it down, and by the look of the issues others around me had Im sure I wasn't the only one let down by the poor food standard today. I have waited a few weeks to allow for bedding in issues and the usual hype to die down. I frequent Buzzworks premises on a weekly basis and I know their menus probably better than some of the staff but I very rarely have any need to complain or to feel short changed by their service or their quality of products served. The old Elliots was first class for food. All kinds of food, day and night. The plates served were without fault and 6/5 99% of the time. Today we had breakfast in the new restaurant. It was fairly busy but there was still plenty of tables available. The new bar was still closed. We received a warm welcome and were seated at a table that had not been set and had no cutlery, napkins etc. Strange given every other table had them. Had a look through the new menu and a gaze around the new surroundings. No expense spared on the new designs and the quality of workmanship looks to be second to none. Some really nice looking touches. Only negative was the over abundance of plastic greenery everywhere. We ordered two of the exact same breakfasts, namely The Buzz Works. Both selected with fried eggs and brown toast. We didn't wait long for the food to arrive and to our surprise our breakfasts were served with only one egg, there was no mushrooms, the beans were dry and stodgy, the black pudding was soaked in oily fat and the haggis looked like it had been spooned onto the plate and was also swimming in fat. This then leaked onto the other parts of the plate and left a greasy unpleasant taste in the mouth. Not nice. The link sausages were very nice and the only egg we received was extremely over cooked and dry with a hard yolk. The couple next to us were served two golf ball style hard poached eggs on toast. Which the gentleman didn't take to kin day too. You'll notice from the images attached that the mushroom is missing, there is a shiny glow to the black pudding, the beans are dry and the egg is hard. The haggis is hidden by the toast. I hadn't found it by the time I had taken the images. There appeared to be issues with food coming from the kitchen and plates were slow to arrive at the surrounding tables, staff could be seen apologising to other tables for various things. My review is based solely on the fact its a "new" venue and I've judged it on what I've been served and what I experienced. Given my experience with the "brand" I know this standard isn't acceptable to them and I'm sure it will improve over time but they've had a few weeks now and the kitchen cannot allow for the service staff to carry them. Its not fair for the front of house staff to feel the customers wrath and the problems are coming from the kitchen. On this occasion I paid my full meal and I left a reasonable tip for the staff as I always do. Other people may be less forgiving. Fingers crossed for some improvement on...
Read moreFollowing a visit to the Vine in Prestwick on Saturday 18th May I have been forced to give a review in the hope that the management sit up and take notice. Having had a great day out and about with my wife and elderly cousin, we had a look at the two menu's one for the bar food and one for the Vine restaurant area that the member of staff at the till area was happy to provide and we had a polite chat. Though the prices were not low we decided to treat ourselves to the Vine restaurant area. we were quickly seated at an available table and asked what drinks we would like. Up to that point we loved the look and atmosphere of the well attended restaurant which looked as though some thought and design had gone into the decor to create a unique feel and uniqueness. Sadly things began to get worse from then on in. When I looked down at the table, it had grooves in it that were absolutely filled with washed in dirt and food debris not just in one part but every groove on the table was the same. My first reaction was to get up and leave as it was not something I would accept. We called the waitress and informed her, and asked for another table, she at first told us that the other tables had been reserved but she got a senior member of staff perhaps the manager. to come and see us. I pointed out the reason and told him that I felt the table was 'Clatty' with food in the grooves. and he offered us another table. I was still for leaving but my wife who has fibromyalgia, and my cousin who is 76 asked me to stay because of the huge inconvenience it would be to up and leave then find another eatery. So I picked a table with a marble top that at least would not have food debris in the grooves from god knows when or who. Lifting our drinks which had now been delivered to the table we sat at the marble table to order our food. It is amazing how your anticipation of having a nice meal effects your appetite and instead of trying something new I opted for the pan seared sea bass which I chose as the least likely thing that could be horrible. My wife chose the churrasco harissa chicken burger, and my cousin chose the char-grilled beef burger. My slither of sea bass was cooked well, but the long stem broccoli was extremely al-dent the potatoes were overcooked probably because according to the waitress who brought me a plate that was 'Scalding' hot and said it had been under the lamp to keep it hot. My wife's chicken was ok but my cousin burger was way overcooked and burnt black so she could only manage to eat half of it. Now back to the table. Though the manager asked the waitress to wash the table we had been at. My wife who was an infection control trained nurse noticed that she merely wiped over the surface with a cloth. and no effort was made to clean the grooves of the table. In summary. All the good work in the thoughtful and unique design of the restaurant area has been let down by Very poor attention to detail on the cleanliness front. and having made a complaint we felt as if the staff's attitude was very poor and we were given a wide berth by everyone after we ordered. Cable clips in the wall left after a cable of some kind had been removed was not a good look either. The Toilets however had been tastfuly decorated and were of a higher standard than the eating area. What could have been a fond memory to round of a nice day, ended in disappointment. We did not stay for dessert which means the restaurant lost out on at least another...
Read moreNot a great experience in all honesty, I went hungry due to my dietary requirements and the menu being either incorrect or out of date. Although I want to make clear from the beginning, the wait staff and the manager were lovely and tried to be accomodating, the issues were just very much out of their control. My fiance took me here last night for a meal to celebrate our anniversary. I was given a gluten free/intolerance menu which was good. It does have quite a few options if gluten is the only intolerant your avoiding. However, for myself, the menu was very slim due to my extremely restrictive dietary requirements. I couldn't order anything from the starter menu, so I didn't have one while my Fiancé did. For my main, I ordered churrasco chicken, which should have been a completely safe option. On the gluten free menu, it is described as follows: "Cayenne & smoked paprika marinated chicken, BBQ glazed, fresh lime & salsa, chilli pickled slaw, sea salt fries." I ordered this without the slaw and with chilli and parmigiano fries instead of sea salt fries. Unfortunately it came out inedible. The main issue was with the 'salsa'. It simply wasn't salsa, it was literally just mashed avocado - which I can't eat due to my intolerances. This should have been stated on the menu for a start! Unfortunately, all of the chicken was on top of this bed of avocado and was covered in it, so I couldn't eat any of it. The chicken also came out pretty overcooked and totally unseasoned. It definitely hadn't been 'marinated' in spices, and it came without the bbq glaze. The fries came out as sea salt fries rather than the chilli and parm fries I ordered. The manager came out and offered to get me something else but honestly at this point I was so disappointed and my Fiancé had already started eating his food, and I didn't want to make him wait while I had to choose something else and wait for it. We didn't get charged for the meal I couldn't eat but at the end of the day, I went out with my man to celebrate an anniversary and all I got to eat was a few chips, I went home pretty hungry and disappointed. We won't be back, seeing as the gluten free menu...
