After visiting Kilmarnock for the day after a kids football in the morning getting pumped by Glenrothes 13-2 . Had kids crying most of the day and after dropping them off with their counter co cc parents. They had been a long one and was only 12oclock. Coming into Kilmarnock house boarded up trampolines in the middle of the street using washing machines as platform to jump from. With our belly’s thinking out throats have been cut. We were on the. Hunt for some much needed food. My co pilot had found tex mex on Google. Smiles on our faces we drove along to the destination and hurried our way through the door of tex mex. we greeted with a worried face from the front of house. When asking for a table for two. The colour drained from her face as I think she thought we said 102 and they would not be able to accommodate us. She proceeded to ask another member of staff if they had a table for two available. We got ushered to our table with only us and two other people at a table in the whole restaurant. Saturday night and 4 people in the place. At that point we should of turned around and went hungry. Walls were painted in a yellow/orange with would usually indicate a bright room. No place was darker than a jimmy carr set list of joke. We had arrived at 18:30 and it took 27 mins to get menus after getting up to look for the front of house as she would give Houdini a run for his money. We are giving out menus I ordered irn bru draught. And partner had a cranberry juice due to having. UTI.. at approximately 7.5 mins later we received out drink only to take the first sip I was hit with disappointment as I was expecting the phenomenal taste of the ginger fizzy nectar. It had had a stale taste. If depression was a drink it would be irn bru from tex me. We had received our starters which can’t really complain much. But the the garlic mushroom straight out the farm foods bag. Finished of starters sharpish. And we waited patiently to be served our mains. The tension in the restaurant could have been cut with a knife. All our diners were having a similar experience the table next to us were served chicken enchiladas only for them to say hoi I’ve no had our starter. My partners eyes light up thinking it had been placed on the wrong table, with knife in hand she cuts open said enchilada only to be confronted with the wrong order. This had infuriated the misses who was starving and fresh off the blob. And believe me it’s not a good mix. I only knew I was in for it later. The enchiladas were actually the table at the back and his partner had been served theirs.. he was raging to say the least. Another 41 minutes had passed and I had asked for a can of irn bru as a replacement which was an issue. But neither the less I got what I wanted and was presented with a warm can of irn bru. Mains came out and I had a chicken burrito which when I picked it up it proceeded to to drip like a knackered freezer. It was almost like it had been laying in the mop bucket before it had arrived at the table soggy tastes less chicken. Vomit was close to being g on the table. Mrs had already bailed to the toilet. I had had enough by this point so asked for my bill. We had extra items put on our bill I paid it as i just wanted out. The whole experience was extremely disappointing. The constant excuse was the kitchen was busy as it was Saturday night. 6 customers being in there for two hours is not a busy kitchen. Stopped off at Asda on the way to the hotel Very very poor won’t get they...
Read moreAfter wanting to visit here for ages I finally did last night (28.01.18) and was exceptionally disappointed.
Firstly, when taking our order the waiter had to quickly run off to check if there was any fillet steak left. I appreciate that during a busy spell etc it can be difficult to keep track of current stock however there was one table of 6 when we arrived so not exactly heaving. There was one fillet steak left which I ordered. He was also unaware if a merlot was a red or white wine.
We had our starters (calamari and the chorizo and prawn mix) that were perfectly acceptable but not exceptional. We were then served our mains by the chef.
The steak resembled more of an oyster cut but that's a matter of personal opinion. Regardless of the look, it's the taste that counts in my eyes. I cut my well cooked steak and was surprised to find that I could taste more water than meet.
The waiter came and asked how the meals were. I advised that the steak tasted watery and he advised he would consult with the chef. This was a fair response and I was expecting him to return shortly afterwards. My expectation was not met as he never appeared back until it was time to clear the plates! We had also ordered one glass of wine with the steak but that never appeared nor did we have an opportunity to ask for this again as the waiter was too busy playing Boom (extended mix) by Sevenn & Tiesto (not exactly the Latin atmosphere I was expecting) and having a laugh with a table that appeared to be his friends.
When it came time to the bill the waiter explained I had not been charged for my meal. This was a generous offer as I was more than happy to pay for my soft drink, starter, side and the chips I ate that came along with the steak. Thank you for that.
The reason this review is as low is that after 10-15 minutes (please correct me if I'm wrong) of waiting to pay the bill I eventually had to go upto the bar to pay and the lack of basic customer service from the waiter. If it were not for the generally bad waiting service I would've gave this placs a...
Read moreI rarely ever leave reviews but I feel I have to for this place. What a gem of a place! I was visiting my parents over Christmas and my mum and I were looking for some place to get dinner. It was busy and we tried a few places that were already fully booked before stumbling upon this place.
Now I love food and I also used to be a supervisor in a Mexican restaurant a few years ago. This meal my mother and I had was one of the best meals Id ever had. We shared a portion of nachos - which supposedly was for one but was so large we were almost full and that was splitting it in two. That was before the main meal came out - an absolutely enormous chimichanga (I had beef, my mum had chicken.) It was absolutely enormous but more importantly it was delicious.
Im a big guy with a big belly, certainly capable of finishing away meals. For the first time since as long as I can remember, I felt a portion was getting the better of me. i genuinely almost couldnt finish it it was so big. I forced down the last few mouthfuls as maw never raised a quitter but it was absolutely first class.
My mum paid the bill (cheers Frances, next one is on me!) and she then said she couldnt believe how cheap it was.
I stay in Edinburgh so have the nearby access to lots of different cuisines that living in a city grants you but I've never known Tex Mex food to be opened up in Killie or any of the surroundings towns (although maybe Irvine or Ayr has one idk.)
I just hope more folk go try it out. Mexican Food is the best. And this Mexican place was better than any I've been to and I used to eat Mexican food literally 6 days a week.
My mum and I were initially frustrated that we had went a few places that were full but upon finding this Tex Mex we were absolutely buzzing. I will certainly be making sure to go back next time I'm home and encourage anyone else to go...
