As a regular of this establishment, I can say that is definitely one of the nicer Wetherspoons within its region. The staff are very helpful, while also maintaining a professional standard of service. They are very Covid strict and enforce the ground rules well, keeping the place as Covid safe as possible. It can be very busy on weekends which may involve waiting in a que to get in. From my experience this queuing system isn't very efficient, its just a case of keep trying to get in rather than an official que, which can be quite frustrating. The food could be doing with some improvements but you get what you pay for, the drinks on the other hand are great value, probably one of the cheapest places for pint, one thing I have noticed is that menu is cheaper than other Wetherspoons establishments. The beer garden is nice for sunny days and the inside is nice and cosy when its cold. The place has plenty character about it as it used to be a theatre aswell as a bingo, only in the past 10 years has it become a restaurant and bar. Weather its breakfast, lunch or dinner, The John Fairweather makes a pleasant affordable place to dine and drink. However its probably best to avoid on Saturday nights as it can be a pain to get in, it can sometimes be common to find underage drinkers and spice boys, and on the rare occasion, trouble. This is what makes it a 4 star for me, sometimes there's a bouncer, sometimes...
Read moreThe John Fairweather, first wetherspoons I have gone to and this is my third time here, although the first time I also bought food along with alcohol, and as such I feel it does warrant a review so one can increase his review score because I like doing weird things
This is a former theatre and the interior does remind you of that, there are audience "members" (mannequins) above where you'd seat and the whole building is very reminiscent of the early 20th century theatre style, reminding you that yes, you are the main character in your own story so you might as well keep the audience engaged
Alright, so, now the food, I would talk about the service but they're honestly the best part of the whole place, friendly staff, pretty quick, fries took a while but it was fresh, and the tennants I got was a good enough price, I was a bit surprised at the fries portion I got (I think they mistook it for a small bowl of fries when I wanted to buy the standard bowl of fries), but honestly even with the vinegar (no salt at my table) it didn't really taste that overwhelming, it was just eh imo, I would've bought fish and chips but even with my spending expenses I can not justify £10 for fish and chips
Overall, great service, interesting building interior, fries were just okay,...
Read moreThis doesn't look like a massive issue and it wasn't, but I received a breakfast, all was luke warm on arrival but the mushroom was raw, dirty and slimy. I reckon it was boiled for a minute and thrown out. The waitress (who was brilliant) brought out more for free, but unfortunately they were the exact same. On the outside, this doesn't seem like an issue, but looking closer, you could cause an illness with this lack of duty of care to a customer. These were unfit to be served and an inspector could have a kitchen closed over this poor show. There needs to be some basic culinary training given, and even worse, finger marks were embedded into one of the mushrooms to check if they were cooked "enough". It is pure negligence and unsanitary to be giving a product of such a poor quality. I could tell by the waitress she wasn't impressed either but still served it. But it wasn't her fault. The chefs should be ashamed of themselves over such a...
