Visited on Saturday 12th March as a couple. Great location, advertised award winning food but in these expensive times the menu has obviously been adapted towards the cheaper end of the spectrum. The place is clean but no obvious vibe or atmosphere (at least around 2/3pm). Service and prices for drinks were good. The blond girl serving was certainly friendly, the guy seemed very busy, didn't chat or smile much. Decided to stay for lunch, looked at menu and sat at table behind the door. Ordered the Indian mixed combo to start, waitress spoke to colleague and I think that they discussed this but only together, not with us. Also ordered the steak pie (with potatoes), not chips and the lasagne with garlic bread. Noticed that tables on slightly upper level were pretty busy with food being ordered. Large sharing platter arrived with chips,(not ordered by us) not potato wedges (as advertised on menu), 3 chicken wings, 2 slices garlic bread, salsa nachos, garlic mushrooms with 2 dips to be told by waitress that the pakora, samosas from Indian mixed combo were off due to bad quality. This plateful were obviously from frozen supermarket aisle. The taste was OK though and we were both starving... The steak pie had no gravy apart from inside pie and the roast potatoes were also the frozen packet variety. The lasagne tasted fine but as I got nearer the bottom of the dish there was a big pool of oil sitting there. Overall we had bigger expectations of this place but food was...
Read moreI ordered takeaway of kids meals: (steak pie and macaroni), lentil soup and crusty bread and cheesecake and I'm sorry to say I was decided underwhelmed with what I received. The steak pie came with chips instead of potatoes and no veg, the rice pudding ordered with it was horrible and just basically a bowl of slightly sweetened boiled rice with raspberries on top. The macaroni was dry and cold (the steak pie wasn't so no reason for it) and the soup, although lovely, wasn't served with crusty bread but rather half a burger bun cut into 3 and swimming in the melted butter that was put in the same container as hot soup! The redeeming features were the chocolate cheesecake which was top notch and the soup was tasty! Would happily sit in but for charging extra on uber eats to have corners cut with the food, cold food and getting the order wrong is pretty poor. Not a great experience for...
Read moreWent to The Tappit Hen but found out that they didn't do food. Lady there suggested The Village Inn, only two minutes down the road. I am disabled and it was a very long two minutes but worh it. Staff could not be faulted. I had haggis bon bons to start. Spicy haggis covered in a really crispy crumb with a whisky sauce. Excellent. Elizabeth had very tasty breaded mushrooms. Main course for me was scampi and chips. All very tasty. Elizabeth had another starter of chicken goujons which she really enjoyed. We had a little dog with us who was fussed over. A really doggy friendly pub. The decor is a little bit tired but is more than made up for by the quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff. We asked for a taxi back to where we left our car as I could not have walked back up the hill. No taxi available, so the landlord very kindly took us there in his own car. We...
