The Woodpecker Lanark — Restaurant in Scotland

I booked on the web site yesterday Sat for 2 people, when my daughter came home she asked if she could join us I then phoned and asked if they could make it up to 5 people no problem the manageress said till I said one of them was nearly three years old and we needed a high chair then it all changed she was definitely not wanting him to be there so I told her to cancel the booking then all changed again she said she will move things about to accommodate us, we arrived at 5pm and asked for a high chair only to be told it was to small for him which was funny because it fitted him 2 weeks ago, we also had a push chair they said there was no room for it then put it outside (just as well it was not raining) all I can say is the staff were very good with the exception of the manageress who did not want kids near her restaurant, to be truthful I never saw her doing a hands turn in the 2 hours we were there, food was good but the manageress does not do anything for the place she never once approached any of the diners to ask how their meal was. This is the 3rd time I have been to this establishment, if it wasn’t for that this time was an unexpected birthday surprise dinner with family, I would never have chosen to eat here. The attention to detail is certainly lacking, the Pizza my daughter ordered was burnt. We waited 20 minutes for our drinks order and was challenged by a staff member regarding the order saying “she was ignored by us when she asked if we required anything else “ However surprisingly our drink order miraculous was delivered within minutes without the waitress having to retake our order she claimed we did not order. On the whole the food was okay, a bit expensive for a fairly basic menu. The restaurant decor looks very inviting but that is as far as it goes as the rest is some what disappointing which is a real shame. Staff training on attention to detail and not challenge the customer especially when the customer was correct would be a great...

Had a Christmas night here. Pre booked in advanced. We were one of the last groups booked in for 8 pm. By 10pm, we had only been served our starter and main, and we were patiently waiting on our desserts. That is a course per hour, not very swift. At this point, the place is supposed to be closed and the staff were all cleaning and we were the last group in the restaurant. We were eventually given deserts at around 10:20. We could clearly see the staff were bothered that we were still there, and we felt rushed to get out. I feel this could be improved upon as all the food was ordered days in advance.

The food was ok for the price point. The cheese cake was more like cream cake, very sickening and most of us who ordered it couldn't finish the serving. Turkey was very dry and only had a few table...
