Decent sandwiches.... I had the coronation chicken... oddly it was served with vegetable crisps and some questionable hummus. Is that a thing? 😳 The waitresses were very nice... though my BF claimed to be ignored in favour of chat. The decor is ok... the bathroom is a hike up the stairs... the most important thing to note is the coffee .... it's awful. My Americano was overwatered. Bigger is not better with coffee. Still... I'm yet to have a decent coffee anywhere above London in the UK.

I was very disappointed with the food and the service, the staff could do with training on how to serve a table, the glasses we were given drinks in should have been binned along time ago and the coffee looked like it had chocolate thrown all over it if it actually was chocolate. The stairway could do with cleaning and decorating, the bags of veg cleared away and made presentable. The upstairs restaurant also could do with decorating and making presentable.

A recent visit as a tourist to Kirkwall found us stopping at this café for tea and a sandwich. The menu selection was great and the service was better than expected. The staff was courteous and helpful answering questions about the menu. The food was delivered quickly and was delicious. Well worth the stop and we would gladly visit again.

The service was slow. They are a weird mix between a Starbucks, a cafe and a restaurant, so the people working there have to do a lot, thus, a simple order took 15 minutes to be done. We asked for gluten free sandwiches because I have celiac's disease. So we asked for a gluten free meal for a reason. We didn't look at the ingredients because we trusted them to not put any thing which has or may contain gluten. Said meal included a box of whatever snack, and we didn't thought much of it because, well, it was specified. Turns out it actually said on the bag "may contain Gluten"

My point is, if you're going to say you serve gluten free food, do it because your cooks are actually prepared and know what they're doing. Their excuse was that "they always included it with that meal so they didn't think of it" well when you're going to make gluten free food, you have to think about those things, that's the point of cooking without allergens

Train your dammed cooks to have in mind allergens when someone says they cannot...

2* as the govt coffee was nice.

You normally have to travel to the big city to encounter the level of casual indifference I met on my one (and only) visit.

From the moment I walked in I got the vibe that it's one of those places you're meant to feel honoured to be a customer. The place was full (it's not that big) and the staff just seemed to be rushing about in that style of people who are 'very busy' but disorganised. I got the impression that there wasn't anyone in charge and everyone was just doing their best without direction.

Ordering my coffee was more drawn out then it needed to be and it took about 10 mins to be made, which is ridiculous and at one point I thought they'd forgotten the order.

Nice coffee, shame about the...

Used to go to this place so many times on my lunch break and after work. Sat and had coffee especially the vanilla chai ... perfectly made by one girl . but the overall vibe of place had a nice feel and two of them were like Ant and Dec who made me chuckle listening to them. Great place. Great management. Lovely place to kill time and chill out and have food and coffee... cheap food and tasty.. recommend to anyone visiting the island... Better than any other cafe there because of humble it is......
