There’s a nice vibe in this café and it’s good to see various vegan options on the menu, so it’s regrettable that I have to give a low rating.
I was deciding between the plant brunch and the rainbow bang bang salad. I asked our server a question about the salad however he was incredibly passionate about the smashed avocado on toast and recommended this over the two options I was deciding between. It wasn’t something I was considering, as smashed avocado on toast is a pretty common vegan option on lots of menus but was told by our server that it was so much more than just ‘avo on toast’ because of the beetroot/dukka etc and so I ordered it as it was recommended.
The dish came out looking absolutely spectacular but essentially it was just avocado on toast, as I initially predicted (albeit with some vegetable crisps on top - which were nice). No complaints about the sourdough or the pesto but unfortunately there was way too much lime in the smashed avocado which overpowered the other flavours in the dish. The dukka and tiny drizzle of beetroot around the plate looked very nice and they did have a great taste however I’m not sure there was enough of this to make the dish anything other than average.
£13.50 and I didn’t really enjoy it I’m afraid.
I’m disappointed that it was so highly recommended and it just didn’t live up to that.
If I were to go back, I’d opt for the plant brunch or the rainbow bang bang salad, which I now wish...
Read moreBest coffee in England! Yes, I said that.
It's always a bold statement to make about the best of anything, but particularly coffee when baristas machines and tastes can all change, but I'm putting that stake in the ground here, today.
On a recommendation, I went to Life on High for a coffee, and see what could be enjoyed. Situated on the High St in Sevenoaks, this beautiful cafe had a great space with nice music, and on arrival - welcoming staff so I knew I was in the right place!
The menu showed a clear love and support for vegetarian and vegan, while providing for all dietary types. AND - you could bring your dog!! Sadly I didn't bring one on holiday with me :(
I am an old fashioned, hard core, cappuccino drinker, and that's where I started. The coffee I received was nothing less than amazing! I think the UK has really grown its coffee culture skills since my last visit and today I was truly impressed!
I decided to grab something easy to eat, and when I discussed what I was interested in, the waitress was keen to make really helpful recommendations, which I went with - and felt very satisfied with my meal (I had a vege sausage bap), it was just the right size.
The staff were engaging, friendly, interested, and helpful. I had such a good time I decided I had to have another coffee as I wasn't sure I'd be able to make it back for more.
Would I go back? Yes. I WISH I could return to this cafe before I leave, sadly its not...
Read moreSo far the best coffee (well I had Latte in the attached photo) in Sevenoaks Town after Nero closed. Putting Costa and Starbucks to shame. Nice and cosy atmosphere. Friendly staff. The only thing stopping me from giving all 5 stars is the front seating in front of window - there are no blinds so with some sunshine outside (even if it's nice to have it) , it gets too hot inside and with direct sunlight it get irritating as you can't see much... So management should definitely considering installing some blinds from the ceilings rolling down a little bit to block direct sunlight (especially with Spring season coming soon). Oh and table surface was a little bit sticky so not sure if it wasn't cleaned properly (but they do clean surfaces as I have seen it) or wood surface needs a new layer of polish/wax. Nevertheless, best new coffee shop in Sevenoaks after...
