I use Costa multiple times in the week and since lockdown have been ordering for collection through the app. Today the app took payment twice for my order, I entered the store to not only collect my order but in the hope of an explanation why payment was taken twice. The man behind the counter never greeted me and was rude to the customer who was infront of as she wanted to add a panini and cold drink to her order. One of the women working explained to me that the app was having issues and they hadn't got the order so asked her colleague (the man) what to do. He was incredibly rude which I couldn't fathom why. I repeatedly said I understand its not your fault but because I have driven here and as you can see paid twice can I at least get a coffee. He said no I had to ring Costa because its a separate company that deals with it. (Soemthing i see irrelevant to a paying customer) I said I had driven all this way and paid twice for something (hot drink cold drink protein bar and a cake) can I not at least have a coffee as a gesture of good will. He rolled his eyes and I left. The customer before me came out to tell me he was moaning about me to his colleagues infront of her. I understand technology fails us time to time and I was in no means rude to him or mad. I simply asked for a coffee, there was no attempt to be polite and accommodating to me. Considering the current climate of things at the moment due to the pandemic the only positive in the day is breaking away for a coffee and to feel upset and leaving with nothing and know I've been spoken to and then about in this way puts a huge downer on it all. Read moreVisited here a few times since recently opened and took into account 'teething problems'. However things haven't improved! 1)The service is very slow even at less busy times. 2)The tables outside and the bin area are a mess, used glasses etc. Bin unemptied and so litter/trays being left on tables or on the floor at the side of the bin. 3) Poor hygiene standards- staff member that was on til wiping/touching her nose with hands and really scratching her head (hair not tied back or no hair net). Chewing gum whilst serving. Lack of manners or good customer service. 4) Whilst waiting a very long time to be served flies landing on cakes/pastries in the display unit, will never now eat any of these again! 5)Not enough staff working to help with a smoother more efficient running of this establishment. All in all just very disappointing. I visit Costa at least 3-4 times a week but may have to start purchasing my coffee treat elsewhere. I heard a few customers complaining/commenting between themselves at the lack of cleanliness and length of time waiting to be served. Custom will be lost to the Costa just across the way in Next if standards...
Read moreOnly been to this Costa a couple of times as its not local to me but decided to go to St James Park to do Xmas shopping and thought a pit stop for a coffee and cake would be nice. Waiting in the que I was looking around for a free table but out of the dozen/ twenty tables in the shop 7/8 was taken up by single people sat on their laptops presumably working with empty coffee cups. This is not fair to customers who want to sit in and eat/drink and the majority of the tables are being hogged by laptop workers who have drank their drink and not reordered. I feel the staff should have a kind word with them and state if you don't order another drink then move on and let others paying customers have a table. I had to eat and drink in my car...
