Visited this local pub for lunch on a weekend. There is lots of parking around the rear of the building and the facilities/general decor are great. We received friendly and attentive service but found the food was a little slow to come out (the pub was quite quiet at the time). The options on the menu were sufficient and in keeping with the style of the restaurant. I had the Hunter's chicken and my partner had a steak and Ale pie. We also enjoyed the puddings. The food quality or portion size was a bit off for the price and is what has held this review back from being 5 stars. However, the very comfortable atmosphere and generally good service and food mean we will be visiting again.

Four of us dined here this evening, they were happy to provide plates when two of us wanted to share, they adapted the menu to meet our needs and we were served quickly and efficiently by friendly, helpful staff. The meals were delicious, only downside was a bone in my chicken pie, so be careful people eating pies here! Calamari starters were tasty and the desserts were excellent. The hot chocolate drink was really good and chocolatey without all the squirty cream other places think it needs. The special cocktail was an orange-tini, so glad I tried it, it was special! I'd happily eat here again.

Came here for a Sunday roast catch up with friends. The food was tasty. The staff were nice. We had beef, pork, and butternut squash roast. The Yorkshire puddings were massive and very pleased with them. The food was very good, but I'm not giving a 5 as I wasn't blown away. But it was by no means bad. Very nice spot. We also had pudding which was nice, we had the fruit crumble, sticky toffee and ice cream

Wasn't going to do a review because it was never going to be a good one especially after our terrible experience at The British Oak Mosborough on Wednesday (9/6/21) but I got an e-mall from them asking for one so here goes:

Booked on-line 6.30 to 7.45 pm slot paid £10 deposit. Arrived 6.30 pm taken to our table which was all by itself (no other tables or customers close by with only a people-less bar to look at ) so a rubbish table in anyone's eyes.

After 15 minutes had to ask for drinks, 7 pm drinks arrived then 5 mins later had to ask for food (I say had to ask because no one approached us which is what normally happens) the guy who booked us in took our food order and told us that atm food was taking 40 mins this guy never mentioned that when we booked in (wonder why?) we decided to stay because we needed food!

Whilst waiting we looked at our phones, had a chat, played i-spy ( I lost so threw a wobbler and wouldn't play anymore!)

At about 7.35 pm a waitress was passing our table (Rosie) so I asked for two more drinks, mine was the same drink I had before - half of lager {Pravha) she said that they had sold out, this kinda through me off the edge, I said to Rosie that I know it's not her fault but our experience at their pub was the worst and we should have been told about the food delay on arrival.

Rosie explained that they had a new chef and because of their booking system they were getting over booked with not enough staff to cope. I said this was non of our doing and all we wanted was a nice night in a pub with a meal without any stress, she agreed and apologised.

5 mins later (7.40 pm) Rosie brought us our drinks and kindly said they had taken them of the bill I said we didn't want free drinks and all we wanted was our food!

More chat, tapping table, moaning about a tear in the seat we was on, anyway at 8.15 pm still no food so I said to wife I would go to the loo and if it had not arrived when I got back we would leave food-less!

Guess what? ....yeah no food!, Coincidentally Rosie came with the utensils just as I got back to the table (no food though!) I told Rosie it was 8.20 pm and one hour fifteen mins after placing our food order and one hour fifty minutes after walking in through their door and still NO FOOD! I told her that we had to get up at 5 am for work and couldn't wait any longer and my £10 deposit would cover our drinks ( we didn't drink the second lot)

We went straight to McDonald's who had loads of staff but sadly rubbish food!

So I can't recommend The British Oak because I would be lying and I don't think you can blame me and we won't be going back (realise this won't worry them)

Just to remind you:

Not told about food delay on arrival. Rubbish, and I mean rubbish depressing table. Staff don't approach you I had to find them to order. Running out of Pravha? Moaning about new chef and over booking. £10 for a pint and a half in a pub??? Had to go to McDonald's I'm rubbish at i-spy (not their fault though)

Rosie was good though she seemed embarrassed and tried to help the situation and is a credit to the pub (her manager didn't bother to come to our table)

I know you're thinking WOW that's a lot of writing... It's okay, nothing on telly so gave me something to do, anyway I'm going to copy and paste onto Trip advisor,...

first of all I'll come with the positives. The service staff were fantastic. range of drinks on offer were great. Decor was nice. The main reason we made the 44 mile round trip was a member of our party had a 50% off food voucher hence I didn't feel I could complain about the food. I chose soup which I was told was carrot and coriander which came with a "cheese scone" The soup itself was very nice although I would have said it was more like tomato and basil in flavour?? The "cheese scone" actually was a plain scone with a bit of melted cheese on top. The wife had, what should have been, squid in strips, which turned out to be rings which had been fried to death. for main I went for steak with the roast potatoes and "seasonal greens" which turned out to be 2 pieces of, not so tender, tender stem broccoli. My steak was poor. why is it I find the steaks I buy from Lidl, cooked by myself, taste 100 times better than what you find in most restaurants?? We shared a side of cauliflower cheese which I've always found disappointing in the majority of restaurants where the veg is served in a bland white sauce with a bit of mild cheese sprinkled on as an after thought. For desert I went for my favourite sticky toffee pudding with custard. Now, one of thefavourite things about the sticky toffee pudding for me is the toffee sauce that puddles on the top and runs down the sides of the sponge and mingles with the custard. What I got was just the dry sponge, no sauce, and custard??!! so in short my starter was nice but wrong, steak appalling, side, bland and a rather lacking desert. was it worth the 50% discounted price? probably just. Would I eat here again? Never. there were far too many things wrong for me to risk it although the pie photographs I've seen...

We have just returned from a meal here. My partner ordered pan fried chicken in bread crumbs in a sauce with Chunky chips. I ordered a chicken breast burger with salad and coleslaw ... Both pieces of chicken looked exactly the same . Flat and very thin fried in bread crumbs so much so that they were rock hard ..The sauce on my partners which sounded delicious in the write up was just tomatoe puree ... His chips were skinny and not chunky and also over fried .. altho my salad was nice the coleslaw didnt even look like it had any mayonnaise in it .. just a clear liquid in the bottom of the dish. It was very mushy .. To top it all my partner wanted a latte after and they had run out of milk .. it was only 7pm !! It is the worst meal we have had in a long time.. I do not understand why though as even though half price the government is funding the other half .. My partner normally has the pie we saw it come out to someone and all tho normally very large was much smaller šŸ¤”.. We deffo will not go back.. The staff were lovely tho and the young waitress who served us was very sweet and very hard working . She just kept cleaning everything bless her . So all in all the Brit is a lovely pub the front of house staff are lovely too they just could do with a...
