Really nice afternoon tea!!! This little cafe is located at the back of the Emporium antiques building. A basic and minimalist cafe with adequate seating. There is a small car park in addition to on street parking.
We bought a Groupon for a traditional afternoon tea for 2. The mother and daughter duo who operate this cafe were friendly and accommodating from our arrival. With it being 3pm there were not many people there and we soon had the place to ourselves. They were very good at adjusting the the sandwiches to our requirements to make sure we had an enjoyable experience. The selection of sandwiches were nice, the bread fresh and soft. The cakes and scones are homemade on site by these nice ladies who we had a few conversations with.
I prefer the scones without currents but they were still quite decent, accompanied with clotted cream and strawberry jam. We had a large pot of tea to share and we were regularly asked if we needed anything and to make sure it was all okay. We had to take the cakes with us which we were quite happy about. Looking forward to enjoying those later! Overall a very pleasant experience and would go back! We enjoyed our afternoon tea and recommend people to try this at £18...
Read moreMy niece and I visited today along with her baby. The cafe is located inside the antiques emporium, parking is also provided free of charge. Such a wonderful homely cafe. The two ladies were very busy but still made us feel welcomed and were really friendly.
The afternoon tea was really special, the ladies talked us through the various options on offer. We decided to go for tuna, cheese and brie sandwiches along with coffee.
The sandwiches were served on a beautiful dainty two tier platter with a good helping of salad and condiments.
Portions are plentiful.
Then came the scones we chose almond and cherry and raisin. The best scones I have ever tasted, served with jam and copious amounts of clotted cream.
By this point we were both bursting.
Then came the homemade heavenly cakes, which we ended up taking home.
The cakes were devoured and loved by a two year old and myself and my mum.
The Bakewell cake with rhubarb was just so moist and delicious.
The lemon cake was light and airy
The banana bread was Soft and tasty.
The carrot cake was a dream, the perfect combination
All in all I would 100 percent recommend this lovely eaterie. I will definitely...
Read moreWow! No small portions and everything is home made. A snack can serve as a main meal and the interior really makes it seem like an old fashioned tea shop. Extra water for your tea? Yes. The ladies serving are lovely. The afternoon teas are very reasonable and the cakes are amazing. They are even advertising a Christmas special tea or lunch with crackers which will no doubt be generous and as a mix of a lunch and an afternoon tea it is an unusual option for a Xmas do during the day. It's not licensed but has a good range of chilled drinks. It is situated in the Emporium antique shop so it's great for a browse and a hearty bite before you leave, with or without a second...
