The Hare & Hounds — Restaurant in Sheffield

We have had a very poor dining experience here. We came for tea on a Saturday afternoon and ordered three meals; the crispy sweet chilli beef, the chicken katsu and the eastern trio. The service (bar and food) was very slow despite it being quiet in the pub. The food arrived and I noticed that the eastern trio was missing the two sauces that provide the base of the dish - a madras and a katsu. The chef who delivered us the food went to to get the sauces and it took about five minutes before we were given the sauces.

We also noticed that the crispy sweet chilli beef was missing it’s ‘giant’ prawn cracker, and both the beef and the chicken katsu did not come with sizzling peppers as advertised. The chef once again went to the kitchen and after another 5 five minutes returned with some microwaved peppers and a cracker on a plate. At no point was any apology offered - it was as though the staff thought we were asking a lot to request the food we had paid for. The food was of average quality and the sauces, onions and prawn cracker clearly hastily prepared. Overall we were disappointed by the service and quality of food in what could be a brilliant...

This is our local pub that just seems not to care about its customers, at 10.10 last night without notice last orders where called when the bar supervisor was challenged he went on the defensive saying that the top bar was empty and only a few drinkers in the bottom bar so the manager had given him permission to shut at 10.30. When we told him that we would not return after this he did not care and said it was our choice. He then disappeared to the top bar where we could see that he was on his phone i would guess to the manager. He did not return to tell us that they had changed their mind and that they did stay open till 11 when the final bell was rung at which point is was to late for us to get any more drinks, In all the years that we have been eating and drinking in the Hare i have never seen it so badly run, no management only bar supervisors for the past 2 months and clearly an area manager that does not give a dam about the place. This pub is in the heart of our community and should be open at all times not as and when the manager wants it to be. Yes we can use the Covid card but this is beyond that. The local community...

We recently came up to the Hare and Hounds for food, and wow, was the standard delicious!! Talk about refreshing. I had the sweet chilli chicken with rice and it was like something from a thai restaurant - excellent chillis that were flavoursome but not hot were sliced on top just for colour and flare, it had delicious crispy chicken, the rice was perfect and the veg throughout tasty and bursting with flavour. My husband enjoyed a fantastic inch thick steak that came out sizzling with onions and mushrooms - the fries were great too. Two years or so ago we came and it was average at best but it's undergone a change in management and the manager is really good. It was a busy night when we went in, but they cleared a table specifically for us (a nice booth) and were very welcoming and helpful. Big shout out to the chef who that night, was working in hot kitchen on a 28° day. Can't imagine how hot the kitchen must have got. What an impressive chef. Please put in air con for her, she deserves it, only costs £800 lol, I couldn't see any round the back...
