Having visited for a friends leaving do, my wife brought me here as a treat during my birthday week.
So many things on the menu to tempt, I was quite torn. Very nearly went for the full English, the smoked fish hash was talking to me too, but in the end I settled on the creamy garlic mushrooms and a sausage butty.
Our order was promptly and courteously brought to our table.
A wonderful malted roll with four piping hot, chipolata style Cumberland sausages, really good.
Then, the main event. I'm not normally a salad guy but this was delish, and the only thing I left was the beautiful looking cherry toms and cucumber, (yuck 🤢).
Poached egg, nom, spinach, nom, bacon, nom, mushrooms, nom. 😋 Used the toast to mop up every last drop of the creamy sauce. 🤤 And only got the lightest smattering down my shirt. 😁
All washed down with a tasty black forest hot chocolate.
I went to the loo after 🙈 now I only mention this as to get there you go through the kitchen. I love a place that is confident enough to have an open kitchen, nothing hidden. So I stopped and chatted with the friendly staff, the brisket looked simply awesome!!! 😲
I really enjoyed my visit, will definitely return and would recommend it to anyone. To top it off the wife swears it only cost slightly more than a visit to a franchised fast food...
Read moreI called at 14:25 to check if there was a table for 8 and they said yes.15 mins later 6 of us arrived. We didn't enter the cafe downstairs because they directed us directly upstairs. We orded food and drinks and at that time nobody told us anything about the kitchen closing time. The food and the drinks arrived and the very kind waitress asked us if everything ok. We told her everything is ok and we just waiting for another 2 people more which she did not say anything to the kitchen about them. At that point nobody tells us when the kitchen closes. Our friends arrived after 3 pm and they were been told that the kitchen was closed and they serve only cold food (which later turned out to mean a selection of cakes) and drinks. We asked the other waitress why no body informed us about the kitchen's closing time and she said that "one of your friends he uses to work here and he knowns the closing time " and "we have a notice on the door with the kitchen opening hours" which it was hard to see. If we knew that the kitchen closing at 3 we could order some food for our friends too. The food that 6 of us ate was tasty...
Read moreRhubarb Shed Cafe catered our wedding at Manor Lodge in April 2022. Our experience with them from start to finish was amazing. Their customer service is excellent, they made us feel special and listened to exactly what we wanted for our day giving us ideas and happy to tailor to our needs with the bride being vegetarian and the groom a meat eater. We visited the cafe for a food tasting experience which was lovely and helped us to decide what to go for - we chose a 2 course sit down meal of pies with a duo dessert.
The food on the day was perfect, our guests kept telling us how much they enjoyed it. It was all served hot and at the same time despite the large number of guests, and our guests with dietary requirements (vegan and gluten free) told us how well catered for they were, with their food looking and tasting as good as everyone else's. The chef, Tony, checked in with us during the meal how the food was which we really appreciated. We cannot recommend them highly enough for catering any event, they are lovely people who are great at...
