Iâve been going to the summerhouse for a while now for breakfast and lunch including a New Years party in 2018. The service and the food quality has always been to a high standard, however today itâs been extremely poor verging on dire. I attended in a group of 6 to celebrate my grandfatherâs birthday. The Sunday lunches are usually fantastic with plenty of food on the plate and also come with plenty of vegetables. Now itâs like âwhereâs the foodâ when you are paying ÂŁ18 for a beef Sunday dinner you expect a decent amount. 3 thin slices of beef 2 parsnips, 1 carrot, 2 roast potatoes and flat Yorkshire pudding. The vegetables that came to share were really small portions of cauliflower cheese and green cabbage and green beans. We were served 2 small bowls of these vegetables and they were supposed to go around 5 people! Ridiculous! One meal was supposed to be gluten free but the cauliflower cheese wasnât. I was told originally that the cauliflower cheese was gluten free then once I had it on my plate and some of it in my mouth I was asked across the table of people I was dining with âhow gluten free I amâ by the waiter because the cauliflower cheese wasnât gluten free??!! Shall I divulge into my bowel movements as well while Iâm there?? That isnât something you want to discuss with someone you have only just met. Let alone at the dinner table. Very bizarre. Also the gluten free meal came with less food than the normal meals and nothing was supplemented at all. Awful. Drinks service was also very slow and asking for extra vegetables was painful! The only thing to arrive was extra gravy (and we hadnât even requested this). It arrived once we had already finished our meal. Well well well... A real shame really. I think itâll still do well but only down to area it is located in. Itâs got a âmade in Chelseaâ image where itâs obviously become the place âto be seenâ and makes great instagram photos for the social media slaves. The summer house used to fill me with confidence! I would book knowing I was going somewhere that I could guarentee I was going to receive impeccable service and amazing food (and I wouldnât leave hungry!). Unfortunately...
Read moreI really don't want to write this. Myself and my partner arrived tonight for a drink and a meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We went to the bar first for a drink and although it was busy with people, no one was waiting to be served. We couldn't get to the bar because the 2 bar staff were chatting to a couple at the bar, blocking our way, so we waited. They made eye contact a couple of times, ignored us, until a small blonde lady entered the bar area, noticed us and hinted to them that we were waiting. There was no rush to move the people they were chatting to, Infact they moved themselves upon hearing the blonde lady mention us and the 2 bar staff half reluctantly served us, leaving half of my partners drink on the far side of the bar for them to have to reach and pour themselves. The bar staff went straight back to chatting to each other. No mention that it was our drink...........Okay After a while we went to the restaurant, ordered a starter to share knowing it was meant for one person. Gambas pil pil which had 6 medium sized prawns and a tonne of lovely sauce with bread, it was a tenner but 6 prawns was a small amount......................Okay I ordered the seafood linguine with Tiger prawns, mussels and salmon.... same prawns as the gambas pil pil, medium sized regular prawns curled up, NOT Tiger prawns. I got full on the linguine and was picking the fish out. Noticed a strong mackerel taste in the fish, which I like, but wasn't advertised as included and noticed it was tinged pink which I can't understand why, other than the fact I found no salmon. So mackerel instead of salmon? Brave really because mackerel is rather potent..............I don't know
Lovely looking place but for ÂŁ9.95 a glass of wine and then the bad bar service along with the food queries makes me wonder. I didn't raise this at the time because honestly I was having a good time and tied to ignore the bad, if we had thought more at the time we honestly would have raised concerns. Lovely looking place I'm just not sure at all about the bar service and value for food for spending...
Read moreVisited on 14th November. We have had the pleasure of going a number of times before the extension to The Summer House. We have always really enjoyed our experience here until tonight. We arrived and was greeted by three staff members that was looking at us like weâd walked in with two heads. Iâd booked our table for our anniversary. There was only two other sets of diners. One set, a middle aged couple of ladies. The other, two ladies and two you young girls around the ages of 7. It was then a shock to me and my partner that they chose a table bang next to where the two young girls were running about and throwing the placemats they were meant to have coloured in. I cannot stress enough, I have nothing against taking kids out, as a Mum of 6 and another on the way I can only sympathise with families that are made to feel uneasy because they have kids. However due to this, it is only a 1 off me and my partner get to go out on our own. You could also tell the other Mums uncomfortableness telling their girls to sit down and be quiet. When we had chosen off the menu we wasnât disappointed with our starters it was just like Iâd remembered The Summer House. That was until the mains arrived. Mine was âFritto Mistoâ or something similar to that. Everything was battered my prawns, squid, muscles. The scampi was like some youâd pick up in Morrisons. The crabcake looked burnt and tasted of nothing. There was no dipping sauce. No tartar sauce and was more or less just thrown in a dish with a slice of lemon. My fries came in a plant pot, that seems very dated to me. I found the waiting staff friendly and pleasant, but the uniforms they wear are scruffy looking, like something youâd see in a pizza restaurant. Me and my partner both feel the standards have slipped. It was nothing special, more like a nice pub lunch...
