Castle Inn Sheffield — Restaurant in Sheffield

One of my worst dining experiences ever. I went here on a Sunday around 5pm with my son, daughter in law and two young grand kids. it was reasonably busy but not hectic. . We ordered 5 drinks and the waitress brought the kids drinks 10 minutes later. I expected the others to follow but ten minutes later I had to ask her where they were. We then ordered three adult Sunday lunches and pasta for the kids. My son and I wanted the slow cooked sirloin of beef but they only had one portion left, so I had the chicken, along with my daughter in law. 30 minutes later the food hadn’t arrived so I asked the waiter if he could find out how long it would be. He came back a few minutes later and said it was being plated up. Another ten minutes later it turned up at the table. I knew then that it was going to be a bad experience.the half chicken was extremely dry, as were the roast potatoes. They had clearly just been kept warm for a long time. The cauliflower and broccoli were undercooked. The other chicken was the same and my son said the beef was really tough. I sent my meal back and declined the offer to order something else (bearing in mind how long we had already waited.) my son and daughter in law would have sent their meals back but they hadn’t eaten all day and were really hungry. The apology from staff was half hearted. We then ordered a dessert for the kids and my daughter in law asked for a crème brûlée but was told there weren’t any left, so she didn’t order anything else. When the kids ice cream arrived, it was vanilla and not chocolate as requested. The waiter then said the chef was actually making her a crème brûlée but I was gob smacked when it turned up. The top was soft and underneath it looked smelled and tasted like cold scrambled egg! Absolutely disgusting. I wasn’t charged for my main course or the brûlée but the bill still came to £68. When you pay £18.50 for a Sunday lunch you expect it to be of good quality. Staff didn’t even offer an apology upon paying the bill. Definitely won’t be returning. Poor food and...

My custom was ignored.

I emailed my enquiry on the 13th April 2021 for a special birthday party of approx 25 people with food. No acknowledgement and no reply to follow up my enquiry was made. I sent a 2nd message via messenger on their Facebook page and still no response. I gave them the benefit of the doubt as they would be busy due to re-opening again after lockdown. This should not be an excuse as they have time to make posts on Facebook promoting their establishment, therefore an acknowledgment to a potential customer should still be of importance. I then made a 3rd attempt by phone and was informed the manager was on paternity leave and he would call on his return on Wednesday 28th April 2021. Still no reply and we are now at the 1st May 2021 so I gave up!! I was trying to support my local business but this could not happen, not for the one for trying and more so after the year the hospitality business has had I thought they would be organised and ready for every potential customer at the end of the phone or an email. I did send a courtesy email to inform them of my feedback I would be leaving and amazingly the manager replied...

So we've had food at Castle Inn two weeks in a row now and planning on a third, last Tuesday we had the fish and chips which was so amazing, such a great portion, served on a fish shaped plate (it's the little things!) and yesterday we went for the Burgers, two of us had spicy zinger burgers (these looked amazing and I will be having it next time!) and two of us had the rotisserie chicken, I had mine with Patatas bravas and garlic allioli - the Patatas Bravas weren't really authentic, as they were new potatoes, but they were nice, however the garlic allioli/aioli was gorgeous, very close to the original in Spain to say it was homemade (I was very impressed, as I used to live in Spain)

We're going again soon for the flatbreads I believe! I definitely recommend, they have different specials every night but you can still order anything, and with the #eatouttohelpout offer you have a perfect excuse to go! Restaurant has sanitizer everywhere, plastic screens in between each table and the staff are all very careful and wearing...
