Shocking - total horrible experience. 7 of us in our party and there was somewrong wrong with 6 of our meals. Orders were taken - only to be told we have no steak, well no serlion so we changed and ordered rump, to be told again after ordering we only have a couple left so some of us had to change again. First two steaks comes out and one of them had to go back as it dripping blood even though it was required very well done, cremated infact, this steak went back 3 times. I went back to the bar and explained to the person that took the order that the 2nd lot of steaks also had a order for a very well done steak and it must arrive with no blood. About 3 minutes later the 2nd lot of steaks came out and sure enough it had to go back because it was dripping, we warned the waiter it must not come back with any sign of blood and sure enough it left the table for 7 minutes and came back and was ok, the other plate of steak was ok but i had ordered some bloomer bread, waiter had brought one slice of bread, i told him that there should be another one, he came back out to us after a couple of minutes with another slice of bread and said the chef has given you another, i told him to check the menu and it states 2 slices of bloomer bread not just one so the chef hasnt given me anything, i bought and paid for it. The other three plates that had to have chicken had it but it all looked dry and didnt look like anything on the menu. Overall totally dissatisfied with the whole experience. And i havent even mentioned the ale, the philthy cutlery, tables and general look of the eating area. To be fair to the staff they did offer the lady that the steak went back in 3 times her meal money back. The chef actually said he was so stressed as it was his 2nd day and they had low stock of everything, maybe that why we got very small portions of chips and 4 tiny pieces of scampy.
Green King must try an do better with this venue, it looks like the Jockey from Shameless and its meals were just that "shameless" .
This was my 2nd time visiting a Green King after a disappointing visit to one in liverpool , i should of...
Read moreI'd booked a table online for Sunday Lunch but it seems reservations aren't needed - upon entry at 1300 we were pointed into the dining area and told to sit anywhere (the USB charging points near the seats are a plus!) - the place was pretty quiet. However, for 1pm on a Sunday, we were also told there was no more beef... either for a roast dinner or for sandwiches.
We ordered our meals and drinks over the bar, which required waiting for staff to appear (the bar is an L-shape, meaning customers at one side aren't spotted from the other). There's not a great beer range, but had sufficient in bottles, and I went for chicken skewers and wings, which took a good 30 mins to come out but wasn't bad - the chips were good and dry but it was typical pub chain fayre, sufficient to plug a gap, and cheap with the deals available.
We returned for another visit later that week (tuesday evening), using the app to place our orders but this didn't speed anything up - and were shocked to find there was only one beer on and no ice for any of the cocktails. Again, the meals were decidedly average, with my colleague's tomato slice atop her burger a thin end sliver and my Chicken Katsu Curry ended up being Chinese curry sauce poured over breaded chicken goujons plus chips and (boiled) rice. It was tasty enough, and the addition of rice soaked up the sauce well, but still felt like typical chippy offerings rather than something you'd...
Read moreSaw the sign outside for seniors to have two courses for £5.49 so thought we'd try it having been shopping across the road. Paid for two tiny fish and chips and asked if I should order the sweet at the same time and the very young inexperienced guy said to order that later. Fish and chips were very tasty but small (as expected for that price). . When we came to order the sweet he was adamant that we hadn't paid for the sweet. I asked him to take the seniors card from the table and show the manager we had paid for two courses as shown on the advert. He eventually came back and said they would let us have it this time but insisted we hadn't paid. We paid over £16 for two meals and two drinks and the second course was supposed to have been included. Big sign outside the pub staring that and also the notice in the table. We left with a sour sour taste in our mouth ( not from the crumble as that was delicious) and very embarrassed to be made to feel we were trying to cheat them. The poor young man was obviously new to the job but the manager couldn't be bothered to come and explain to us why we were in the wrong.. Won't be going back there as they don't seem to care about their young staff...
