It been 12 months since my wife and I moved from Birmingham, some would say the capital for Indian restaurants. We have tried numerous places both restaurants and takeaways & found very much a mixed bag. Last night we tried Aangan & were so very glad we did, from the instant we walked through the door we were greeted with a warmth & gratitude for choosing their restaurant. We decided on the pakora for the starter mine being chicken and my wife's the vegetable, we tried a little of each other's,the batter was light & crispy & the chicken as I like it tender, the vegetable one was much the same with the portion more than enough should some wish to share. For the main course I had a chicken tikka pathia which was different from any I had previously,it wasn't as spicy nor was it quite as sweet yet this made it no less enjoyable in fact for me sometimes I have found other restaurants level of heat in the pathia to be a little too much for me,the sauce was thick and full of rich flavours whilst the chicken was incredibly tender more than anywhere I've ever been we shared a vegetable pilau rice which was light and fluffy we also shared peshwari naan that was crispy on the top yet beautifully light & sweet. My wife loves the creamy curries so chose butter chicken which again I tried a little piece and it was equally as tender as mine. The service was excellent with the time of our drinks (a pint of cobra & a strawberry lemonade)order being taken just about right & we didn't have to wait long for them even though it was quite busy when we arrived with the same for our food. With our total bill coming to £62.00 considering the quality of food, service & the evening in general we both agreed presented a value for money you'll find in very few places.(For the management)If there is a minor point where improvement could be made it would be when serving the lady should be first. We would like to take the opportunity to thank Paul and his team but most of all chef for the wonderful food you have given us. Overall our experience of Aangan was fantastic and we will definitely return in the future. Thank you...
Read moreFirst time here and it definitely won't be the last. Had portion of lamb chops (3) two cheese naans and a cheese & garlic naan with our chicken vindaloo and lamb Sherpa. What wasn't mine I still had a taste and 🤤🤤🤤 everything was beautiful, full of flavour. Was a bit on the pricey side but for food that tasted so good, the price definitely wasn't an issue. One problem...... The portion of lamb chops, there was 2 of us and 3 lamb chops, we ended up fighting over the last one 🤣.
Second visit. Fancied a change and got mixed platters. No onion bhaji (which is stated) but got a tub of some type of curry sauce and what looked like quarter a tandoori chicken (both not stated). Still, Definitely can't complain as the sauce complemented the meat. Very happy. This place is a gem. Highly recommend
Third visit. Had the hot chilli fish and chicken vindaloo with 2x cheese naan bread. Before ordering, I was skeptical on the hot chilli fish but it was delicious, anyone reading this comment, please try, you won't regret. I enjoyed them that much, I think I'll go for the Malekhu Machhi next time round with masala fries and lamb chops for starters (as they are really good). This place is yet to disappoint and the best thing is, is that is just around the corner to me. Truly has to be the best in Derbyshire, I've been to many places all over the country and this is my #1 now. Hopefully I'll remember to take pics of the...
Read moreReally disappointed. Having had a couple of takeaways I was really impressed with the food, so decided to eat in. We were welcomed in a friendly manner and sat down at 7pm. Sadly from that point on the service was not great. Drinks didn’t arrive for 20 mins (table of 3). Then another 10 minutes after that until our orders were taken. Starters came out 25 minutes later (which I thought was quite long, but not worth moaning about). It then took another 40 minutes after that for mains. Then another 5 minutes for naans to arrive and a further 5 minutes for the chips to arrive. A total of 1hour 50 mins for all food to arrive. During which we were never asked for more drinks. When we did raise concerns about the duration, we were told that we were next, but that wasn’t the case. I asked for the bill, which didn’t come either 😂 10 mins later we got up and paid on the way out. Such a shame, as the food was fantastic. Clearly some capacity issues, dealing with a busy Saturday night. But that is no excuse for poor hospitality. No attempts made to salvage customer relations such as a 10% reduction or the bill or a couple of drinks or come back next time discount. Just a ‘tried my best, sorry’. Hopefully the restaurant can turn it around, but I won’t be eating in...
