We called for food this evening and the staff were very accommodating as they were busy. We had looked ay the menus online which seemed ok, but the menu was one sheet of paper with very limited fayre. The vegetarian options were limited only 2 options! I nearly ended up with a sandwich & a bowl of chips. I then decided to go for the mushroom linguini which was very disappointing. The sauce was flavourless and thin with no seasoning. The garlic ciabatta had no garlic whatsoever and it was dry and tasteless. My companions steak and ale pie hadn't a very flakey pastry lid as the menu said and they said that although the meat was nice they couldn't taste any ale and it came with mash but the menu online states chips. Our other companions found the chips too fat and very like croquettes, but enjoyed the scampi. Although the refurbishment is reasonable I wouldn't recommend this menu to anyone. I used to eat here before it was done up and although it was pub grub it was tastier and more reasonably priced with a greater choice of...

Called in for first time to this pub. It has just reopened after a refit and is very nice. Although we did not eat on this occasion we will return in the future to do so. Menu had something for everyone. Staff were pleasant and the atmosphere inside was nice on our visit.

Update 21Feb2022 Popped in for lunch and the food was excellent. The pub was very busy with lots of reserved tables, which is a good indication of how popular the pub is. We had BLT sandwiches with chips and they were delicious. Other tables were having full meals from fish and chips to steak and every plate went back empty, another good sign. We will return again soon for evening meals, as well as drinks. This pub has a lovely welcoming atmosphere and a friendly team. It's a real local,...

Called in by chance on 17th June. First impressions were good so decided to stay for lunch. Bar lady seemed a tad grumpy when I asked to try a taster of the local beer but served it up nonetheless. I gave her my order for food and she advised me it would be a bit of a wait as they were quite busy.

The food did take a little while (some 45 minutes) but boy, was it worth the wait!

I ordered the fish with the garlic new potatoes and the food was absolutely delicious. The food was so good I decided to have a pud and the Sticky Toffee Pudding was also excellent. I eventually left some two hours after I walked but had a fantastic meal and a great time.

I am hard to please regarding eating out but would recommend a visit to this pub...

We walked from the marina for lunch before the storm was due. I had chicken, ham hock and leek pie with mash, peas, green beans and lashings of gravy. It was delicious and hot. I then had apple crumble and custard for dessert, and that too was delicious. Plenty of crumble and plenty of custard. The lady behind the bar took our orders for both drink and food. She then waited on our table, bringing the food when the kitchen signalled with a door bell. This lady worked tirelessly and barely stopped the whole time we were there, so we left her a tip. Personally, I couldn't fault this place. Excellent service and great value, tasty food.

What a great pub! We look for a great atmosphere, fab food, and excellent staff - the Green man has it all. This was the 4th pub we tried for food, the Bull and Red Lion in Repton and the Dragon round the corner. This is the best pub in the area and also at excellent value! The staff were attentive and well managed by Karen. The food was 'proper portions' and really tasty. The venue easily transitions between a pub-food venue to a vibrant traditional pub. If you're bored of the gastro pretentious pub - this is the best remedy! Loved it here! 5 stars!
