We visited this pub last night as part of the government's Eat Out to Help Out scheme. On ordering our starters, we were told that the chicken wings and jalapeno poppers were both out of stock but were offered an alternative of High 10s, which we accepted. These arrived and were very nice. However, my daughter asked the waitress for some ketchup for her starter. We asked the same waitress for this 3 times but it was not forthcoming. My daughter ended up finishing her starter without the ketchup. Not a great start. We then had a considerable wait for our main course. I had ordered Chicken Tikka Masala. This consisted of a dish full of sauce with about 4 pieces of chicken in it. My daughter and grandson had both ordered the Lovely Rita and Little Rita pizzas. My daughter said that there were was something not right with her pizza. My husband tried this and it made him gag. My daughter in law also tried this and it made her gag also. They both said that there was a taste of "sour milk" to it. When the waitress came over to take the plates and ask if everything was OK. We explained the above. Eventually, the manageress came over and said she understood we had a problem. We explained again. She asked if we wanted another meal or our money back. We explained that we were not out for a free meal and would not expect our daughter to sit eating her meal when we had all finished ours, but just that we thought this ought to be brought to her attention. She said that the pizza had "probably come from the bottom of the bag". We didn't understand what she meant by this but agreed to differ with her. At no point did she apologise for the food, but asked if we wanted a refund again. Reluctantly, we accepted a refund on my daughter's pizza because she didn't seem to know else to resolve the situation. We reiterated again that we were most definitely not out for a free meal, just that they ought to know about this before someone was ill. The only reason I am giving this pub two stars is that the starters were OK and the other meals were also OK. Ultimately, if you are going to advertise food, whether it be on an offer or full price, you need to do it properly with the relevant customer service...
Read moreUnfortunately not a great experience. We haven't visited Hilton Brook for 5 or so years and was looking forward to our visit.
Two of us ordered starters and sides as our mains and even when ordering separately we asked if ours could arrive with everyones main meals (we are both Vegetarian and struggled finding a main we liked). We got told that would be no problem, however our starters came out without our sides and without people's mains meaning we had to eat while everyone waited for us and visa versa, not only that but as we chose smaller dishes we wanted to enjoy them all together.
When the mains did arrive, some of the items were missing off the plates and not everyone's meals were piping hot. For example my brothers chips were cold whereas when my side of chips arrived they were boiling hot. Not all of the mains came out at the same time and no one else dining had food come out of the kitchen so it seemed like some of the dishes were just on a low heat in the kitchen? The peas were also not cooked. Everyone at the table said their meal was "so-so" and "alright".
My husband had a chunk of his meal missing which was labeled on the menu so he had to go and ask about that.
I'm not sure about the men's toilets as I didn't ask the men of the group but the women's toilets were in an awful state.
Some of the cutlery were dirty so we had to ask for new ones.
Also on arrival we weren't told that food had to be ordered for 6 o'clock, which gave us less then 5 minutes to choose.
Very rude customers as well being ridiculously loud, everyone dining near them were obviously not happy as everyone came out for a nice dining experience.
I would love to add a positive to this review but to be honest it wasn't good at all. Very...
