Chose this restaurant for its superb views of the estuary, however, we were seated at a table where my wife had the view and I had my back to it. We were welcomed in and the staff were friendly and very efficient and attentive (couldn't fault them) and the food arrived quickly. My wife was happy with her meal so this review is based on my experience. As we were on holiday I decided to push the boat out somewhat and opted for a fish course - prawn cocktail starter at just over £12 and the Fritto Misto (lemon sole, king prawns, squid rings and an asian salad) at £28.95. I'm not in the habit of ordering such expensive mains but thought at that price it must be rather special. It wasn't. The prawn cocktail arrived in a narrow glass and consisted of some prawns in a sauce placed on top of some dull shredded lettuce with some cress perched on top. I could have done a better job myself at home and would have been embarassed to serve this up to friends as a prawn cocktail. It was bland with little flavour. The Fritto Misto consisted of three goujon-shaped pieces of lemon sole (presumably an expensive fish), two king prawns and two small squid rings, all fried in tempura batter. The squid rings were perched on top of an asian salad which I didn't find at all special. The squid rings themselves I never managed to chew through. The accompanying sweet lime dressing in a small pot tasted no different really to Hellmann's Mayonnaise. This main I found totally underwhelming and I got through it in about 10 minutes, deliberately eating slowly to try to give my wife time to finish her meal at the same time as me. If this meal had been served in a pub I still would have been disappointed. I had two glasses of wine and an Irish Coffee (which was excellent) and my wife had a fruit juice. Including service charge the total came to about £104. I don't mind spending this sort of money on a meal for two once in a while but I expect it to be rather special taste-wise and this wasn't. At these prices I wouldn't risk coming back in the future to try something different....
Read moreWe had high hopes but what an expensive disappointment. We had mains and drinks. I have to say the fritto Misto was bland and boring. The only flavour was in the Asian salad that accompanied this dish. The sole and squid dipped and cooked in temporary batter added nothing to this dish. The ‘Famous fish and chips’ were ok, nothing special really with a pea purée that had a little spice added to lift the price. The chips in a little bucket, why? The overcooked dregs of the chip fryer hidden under the main batch of chips. Really sorry but £83 for this meal two glasses of wine a gin and tonic is really taking liberties. This place is over priced and trying to be something better than it is. The wine list is basic and not very exciting either. The decor was lovely as was the view, ambience and the waitresses who served us were ok. If there is access for disabled we didn’t see it but two flights of steep stairs is inhibiting. We had read the reviews and thought it would be great to eat out while visiting the town. Sadly won’t...
Read moreNot sure what to say about this restaurant. Was rather confused at the men… fish takes on an Indian/asian cuisine? Have been here before and came back to a very different menu. All in all we ordered starters and mains for the table, which was a great mix of sea food - cold and warm. Food was pleasant and rather tasty, portion size was poor for myself and the 8 guests. For the cost of £22-34 price of main, cheapest being £22 I was disappointed with the portion size. Food was yummy though. Again for the starters £13-£20 for a starter and portion sizes were small, you couldn’t share them. An okay selection of wine. The views looked beautiful, but I guess that’s what you are paying for if you are out on the deck, we were inside so didn’t take in the views.
Also to mention the fish and chips was lovely - not in too over powering batter!
Bathrooms need updating as rather dirty and old.
Would go back for a light lunch and make sure I’ve got plenty of money to spend, as this is not...
