The Salcombe Yawl — Restaurant in South Hams

Owner of this place (and the fish monger next door) clearly has no respect for his customers as we were treated with absolute contempt.

We ordered 4x crab sandwiches which were advertised as £12.50 each in the window - very steep even for Salcome but we thought worth it as the crab is amazing in this area. We were also expecting they would be a good size at that price. When the owner brought the baguettes to us they were maximum 5 inches big and he charged us £14 as we asked for salad! (He did not mention salad is extra at the time).

When I questioned him on this he flippantly said "there's a money back guarantee" and ran away back inside. He then came back out and told us that we were lucky that he accepted Amex from us so should be happy.

The baguette was very nice, but a complete joke at £14, we also found shell in a few of the baguettes. When we tested the money back guarantee by asking for a refund (a conversation he made very awkward) he shoved a £5 note at us and said "go buy a pint".

Treat people with respect...

Looks like a family run independent cafe, and fish shop with lots of freshly caught seafood next to each other, that is also reasonably priced. The seafoods and crab sandwiches are always fresh and the staff are quite friendly, helpful and knowledgeable in their trade. I always buy the seafoods there due to the fair prices and good hygiene whenever we are in Salcombe. It is the real treasure for seafood lovers. And also the Yawl cafe is one of the few and best place for a light bite in Salcombe, serving a large range of delicious made-to-order paninis and toasties and great coffee! Owners and their team are always very welcoming, willing to help and seem happy to see you no matter how...

I really wanted a crab sandwich but at £13.50 pre-packaged from a hole in the wall establishment, it's just too much. What's the world coming to! So decided on the ham cheese and pickle toastie at £8.50. Not sure what I expected (breville style?) but it was scrumptious, huge chunks of good quality ham, melted cheese with an artisan pickle. Freshly made with lovely toasted bread..Very tough to eat as was going everywhere. Very very nice, would recommend....
