The Ship Long Sutton — Restaurant in South Holland

Had a meal here for the first time on friday and overall was very dissapointed. Service was very poor. Was told to sit at table 2. After 15 mins had not been given a menu so went to find one for ourselves. A waitress then arrived 30 mins after our booking time to tell us she didn't know we were here! The place is the size of a postage stamp so not sure how she missed us! Starters were ok and mains were good. We ordered more drinks during our meal with the waitress taking our glasses. Drinks never arrived so instead of ordering dessert we just paid and left. Staff need better training as this place falls very short from a hospitality point of view. At best it's just a pub and should concerntrate on that offering...

My daughter and I popped in for a bite to eat, and got sidetracked watching the rugby. We were offered a couple of seats right in front of the TV and were made to feel very welcome by the management and the customers even though we were not locals. The service was first class in my view in the restaurant too. Overall there was a really nice vibe and atmosphere in the whole pub, ie, it wasn’t full of blokes watching football like some others, and whilst there was still an energy it wasn’t rowdy or imposing. This used to be a great restaurant but over last few visits it has gone down hill, our visit 3 weeks ago on steak night was a horrendous, staff spent more time sat chatting at the bar than waiting, we asked for mustard and it came for the very last mouthful then paying in my simple mind 4x £9.95 come to under £40 but they were happy to present a bill for £59.64 then look disgusted I questioned it. We gave it one more try this Thursday not only was the service unbelievably worse the price had gone from £9.95 to £11.95 ( I know things go up) but they halved the size of steak and chips and it was so thin you could only get medium to well even though we wanted medium rare it’s such a shame.
