Lovely food with a diverse menu. The owner/ manager has a good knowledge of wines and beers to compliment your meal; some beer we tried is not available in our local supermarkets...at 9% proof it was delicious. If you have dietary requirements just ask! Attentive staff, quirky interior which we love and very good value. We have booked to go again next week and this is our new favourite!
Update: have dropped from 5 to 3 stars following this 2nd visit for Valentine's Day. We don't usually bother with going out on valentine's but having enjoyed the previous week's visit thought we'd support this new local business. Four courses plus a welcome drink on arrival for £19.95! We were offered a drink as we arrived so I chose red wine, my husband a beer. I wasn't asked what size I wanted and didn't query it as thought this was the welcome drink. Others around us were also being asked as they arrived what they'd like. Meal was lovely but it was only as I asked for the bill that I realised the owner had actually charged us for these drinks? I questioned it and he seemed to shift a little uneasily as he said the welcome drink was for a soft drink, namely the two small bottles of J2O that had been put on the table? I told him he'd not been clear on this with his menu and it was misleading how we'd been offered drinks before even getting to our table. We'd seen the J2Os on our table, but there had been sparkly water on our table the week before which we'd chosen not to drink as suspected we'd be charged. In addition to this, had we been told the complimentary drink was a soft one we'd have preferred to choose our own. Not wishing to make a scene and spoil what had been a lovely evening with my husband I grudgingly paid the bill, minus any tip (apologies to the lovely waitresses for that but simply couldn't afford it on top of additional £10 charged for our beer/wine) With hindsight I should have asked for the cost of the J2Os to be removed from the bill or gone and taken them off the table for our daughter. The food as before was lovely but sadly this experience left a bitter taste as we felt we'd been manipulated. Not sure we want to go back to an establishment that operates like this, but if you visit just be clear that you will be charged for everything and if you visit when there is a special menu, confirm...
Read moreWe attended this restaurant last eve, unfortunately we did not have the best experience and I am unsure how to explain it fully. The Waitress is friendly and very welcoming and really the best part of our experience, an asset to the restaurant. I have many years experience in cooking for the public and this was not good food. It was badly cooked, the chicken was dry, the peshwari naan was flat and tough and was covered in sugary coconut, the mushroom rice was dry. We had a couple of mouthfuls and decided to leave. My husband went quietly to make payment in an effort to not embarrass the owners, we decided not to complain loudly to distract other people in the restaurant, but what amazes me most about the whole situation is that no one at the desk thought to ask why we were obviously unhappy and leaving after just a few mouthfuls. A good restaurant would have been very concerned and made an attempt to find out. Our bill had food added that we did not have, which my husband did have taken off but our 4 poppadoms, pickles, couple of mouthfuls of inedible food, a coke and a beer ended up costing over £40 & we left hungry and angry! Such a shame - with exception to the service of the waitress who deserves her stars, I am genuinely sorry to say a less than one star experience...
Read moreThe trip adviser sticker on the window definitely made us want to try this place. Sadly, if it were up to me, that sticker shouldn't be there. The meal was very disappointing. I have dined in many Indian restaurants before but never in my life have I had coconut rice that was plain white rice mixed with coconut shreds (?) and roasted onions (?). Completely confusing and not appetizing at all I'm afraid. The shrimp dish I ordered, I asked for it to be mild, and as a result I received a dish that was completely tasteless... it wasn't mild, it had no spices at all. The rest of the food was OKish and truth be told we only ate the meal because we were super hungry and it wasn't repulsive. What I am saying is that it was very, very disappointing. Another 'weird' thing was that the dishes were served in plain white porcelain dishes not the more typical 'indian' copper/metal serving dish which makes the experience a bit more fun and 'authentic'. The place seemed clean though and the chef was very friendly. The lady serving us maybe too friendly...adding "my lovelies" to literally every sentence. A bit too much I'd say. Sorry, won't be...
