The Swan, Loddon, Norfolk is a lovely place to stay. We stayed in the family room which was very clean, spacious and comfortable. The bed, bedding and pillows were all very comfortable. Tea making facilities and biscuits are provided, with chocolates on the pillows the first night. The room is in an older building set aside from the main pub. The front door is quite stiff to open and other residents were noisy when opening and closing it. We worked out that to close it quietly from the outside you need to put the key in the lock and pull it to. No need to slam it... Same with closing it on the inside, turn the lock to the left and pull the door to. This can be achieved without making a sound. Maybe the staff could take this into consideration and advise guests being shown to their rooms, so that they can be mindful of each others' peace and quite and to prevent guests being woken up in the night by a very noisy slamming of a door. In the entrance hall there is a glass door which opens out on to the family room's door. It was constantly left open by other guests (as was the main entrance door). This can become quite tiresome. Please advise your guests to keep the doors closed...
The visitor's information folder stated that an iron and ironing board were available to guests, if not in the wardrobe, ask a member of staff. The family room does not have a wardrobe. We asked 3 times and eventually these were located. Small detail but staff need to know where to locate the iron and ironing board.
We ate in the restaurant on the evening of our first night's stay. The food was perfect. Could not fault it in anyway. Served piping hot, presented well and it was delicious. The staff were friendly and courteous but feel training is needed so that they can answer questions about the menu confidently.
Breakfasts were also well presented, very filling and tasty. The service again could not be faulted on any of the three mornings of our stay.
There were a few snagging details in the room. The bathroom door knob is very stiff to turn. Several times it was difficult to open the door from the inside, especially with arthritic hands. Twice in the night I had to be let out by my partner. The curtains need some attention, especially the right hand one as it is not on the hooks correctly so there is a gap at the top and in the morning it lets light in. Behind the lamp on the left hand side of the bed (if you are in it) there is a chunk out of the wall which needs repairing.
The bathroom is spaceous with a good sized bath and shower. The shower is very powerful with brilliant water pressure and instant hot water. The towels are large and fluffy. The temperature dipped considerably and we had to ask for the heating to be turned on. The heated towel rail is reliant on the heating being on, so on the first morning we woke to towels damp from the previous night. It took a while for the member of staff we spoke to, to locate where to turn the heating on. The same difficulty was experienced when the lights fused because of one of the bedside lamps was not fitted together correctly and tripped the fuse box. The fuse box was eventually located in another room.
Despite the difficulties, each and every member of staff was pleasant and helpful but they do need more training so they are fully informed about heating and fuse boxes etc.
Would we stay again? Yes, most definitely! We had a very relaxing stay and felt very comfortable in our surroundings. The room is well laid out and tastefully decorated. Very good value for money.

Read moreWe stayed here for one night while visiting to go to a wedding. We didn't eat here but did go to the bar at the end of the night for my partner to try out some of their hand-pulled ale - this got a big thumbs up. We were given a double room in the barn extension which was nicely decorated and very comfortable - we both slept very well despite it being a hot night. The room was spotless with a beautiful new shower room, although I didn't realise until the morning that the room has temperature controls so we left the window open instead, which was a bit uncomfortable given it's on the ground floor, albeit out of the way at the back of the building. (I didn't see a window restrictor but would have felt better if there had been one.) We didn't use the refreshment facilities but a pod coffee maker is a generous item to include, and there was also good quality tea and a kettle. We were given clear instructions about where to park, and where not to park to avoid causing problems. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, arrived in a reasonable timeframe, and served in a room which has clearly been recently and stylishly renovated. Altogether we both enjoyed it, slept well, thought it was worth the money, and would have been happy to spend more time there. Loddon is a very pretty village which we didn't really have time to look around, unfortunately. If you wanted a good example of a pub b and b to recommend to someone else, you would definitely...
