I hate to be a Karen, but this is one of those negative experiences that speaks louder than a typical positive one.
I live around an hour away and was passing through, spotted the cafe which looked busy enough and inviting so decided to turn around and make a stop - noticing a big sign about their great Italian coffee.
There were initially a fair few people inside, eventually got to the counter and asked for a menu but had to awkwardly stand next to some tables to read it - not a huge issue just felt in the way and a little socially awkward.
Ordered, paid what I would say is a very strong price for the food but with high hopes it would be worth it. I asked about the wait time, was advised about 15 minutes so proceeded to wait outside.
After around 15 minutes, my coffee to go was brought out, and we were told food wasn’t far away. We then sat down outside and waiting another 25 minutes totalling 40 minutes for a ‘hot baguette’. Nothing was said when brought over and the waitress done a standard job so didn’t want to cause an issue for her.
Maybe because of the wait, but the food just didn’t live up to what I was expecting, the portion size was good and I feel in that moment value for money was pretty justified, there were some good flavours but mainly from the salted butter I believe.
It’s just a shame about the rest and we were treated as if it was normal and not a thing said. Really, I should have asked for a refund after 30 minutes and just gone elsewhere to get food if I was hungry enough to.
I’m sure it’s a good cafe otherwise, the fry tops looked really good, just a poor experience. I would probably stop back if I was in the area, but really unsure how I feel...
Read moreI'm being honest here.. We have been here lots of times over the years but as money is tight now, breakfast out is a treat. We started going to Morrison opposite as it's half the price of Time out. Yes, the food isn't as nice but it's ok. Last weekend, after a horrible week, my wife and I decided to go to Time Out, pay the extra, have a ' proper' breakfast..We should have gone to Morrison. The breakfast was ok, but we paid over twice the price as Morrison. The portions have got smaller, my wife's vegetarian and asked if she could swap veggy sausages for mushrooms..they did this but for the cost, it was a case of baked beans OR mushrooms.. Christ! How much are baked beans??. At Morrison, they offer avacardo and my wife said the veggy breakfast is nicer there than Time Out. The service quick but poor, the waitress, who I think is the owner, looked fed up, no smile, no eye contact and we felt like we were putting her out by being there. I so want to support local business but this breakfast..I worked nearly 3 hours for that.. was it worth it? No. Morrison is a fraction of the price and is still a nice experience ( happy, smiling service). Walking home, we both agreed that Time Out has seen the last of us and our hard earned...
Read moreWe ordered lasagne kids portion and hot baguette. Baguette came cold and soft, extra salad price on the manu was 1.5£ we was charged 2.5£.lasagne was on small plate so we thought was OK till we get to the pay. We been charged 13£ and when I asked why waitress said I didn't asked for kids portion. Shame that we didn't take a picture of the size as we sure that wasn't adult portion.
Somehow I can't reply to the owner comment... So what was rude in your waitress opinion? I did ask her for kids portion and she said she need to go to the kitchen and ask, she come back and said yes it's fine for smaller portion.... so don't try to blame me if your waitress was obviously lost... and only person who was rude was your waitress who gets aggressively loud and changed her tone of voice after I asked get why we was charged 13£ for kids meal. Wasn't first time when we visited your cafe and we was always happy and pleased with the food and service till today. Sad as Time out was one of the places in Diss that we recommend to the friend....
