My wife & I have visited several times since leaving a positive review on Trip Advisor last year. Having had over six months to settle into the role, Manager Ciaran has gone backwards and become as scruffy as the restaurant he manages. A few months ago we received one instance of poor service & incorrect/cold meals, which Ciaran gave us free, when I mentioned "Trip Advisor", after asking what we wanted not to write a bad review. We visited on Sunday 11th June and had two fresh, well cooked meals, which were great. Three weeks later (Sunday 2nd July) we visited again, at roughly the same time and ordered a similar choice of food. The order was simple - one plain burger in a bun with chips, no salad for myself, and a Sirloin for my wife. Server Ellie (a pleasant & bubbly young lady) brought the food out. The burger was full of salad, I asked her to take away & bring me a new one, plain - as ordered. My wife started eating her steak, which mostly comprised fat & gristle and the chips appeared to have been reheated. This was in total contrast to the tender steak and fresh golden chips she was served three weeks earlier. My same burger was subsequently returned, with "most" of the salad scraped off. The chips were shrivelled and looked like they had been reheated. Manager Ciaran appeared and I asked him to take my food away and cancel the order, I pointed out this is the second time in a few months they have given us bad service. He became defensive, stating "this is a family pub", "we are a busy pub" and "not many customers vary their orders" being his reason for getting my order wrong again (being incapable of placing a plain burger between two halves of a bun and serving with fresh chips). When I asked him about the floor being filthy, the fly problem, the tables and menus being sticky and that when we first met him he promised the earth but has delivered none of it, he told us we were barred from his pub! Ciaran then kept repeating "I am a good manager", I advised him "you are not a good manager, your customer service and state of your dirty front of house operation shows you haven't got a clue." He processed a refund on my meal only and we left, advising him we will be complaining to Greene King. We had been fairly regular visitors to this Hungry Horse for over...
Read moreFood was appalling beef roasted, packed and reheated a mushroom and ale pie was reheated in a Merrychef ie microwave convection fan combination 4 slices of mushroom and rubbery pastry. No horseradish sauce they had run out, how that can happen beggars belief. The only saving grace was the waiting staff who have my sympathy for having the embarrassment of having to serve such poor quality and poorly prepared food the kitchen staff clearly don't care the list of basic errors would be endless if I were to detail them. We weren't expecting gourmet dining in anyway just reasonable food. At least find kitchen staff who have a bit of pride albeit they are only following the instructions on the packet. Funny enough and more senior looking gentleman seemed to completely disappear the moment we mentioned our dissatisfaction. Hilarious example of management which probably explains alot Interesting that you felt it necessary to point out the pies are bought in a, all of your food bought in. Yes your waitress offered to replace the meal and yes she agreed to having it removed from the bill but the damage was done and what should have been a pleasant experience turned out to ruin the evening. I will take this further in due course perhaps you should read the Green King web site and question whether you come up to the advertised standards. Most interestingly was your final comment that outlined how disturbing you found it that I put your management skills into question whilst dismissing the complaint. Apart from the horseradish which, by the way, is available at most supermarkets your company would condone using your initiative. Please bear in mind I think the waiting staff were fine and my one regret was that we didn't feel appropriate to tip them. I will be in touch once I have time to itemize each issue I will be in touch There's a Geene King pub just down the road from you it's not uncommon for pubs to help each other out just use some imagination. You seem very keen on making excuses and very slow to admit fault as a result I am taking this further . I find it difficult to understand why you want to be in the hospitality business if any of my managers showed such contepmt towards customers there career would be...
Read moreMy partner and l ordered a normal size and a small roast beef dinner. The waitress came and asked if everything was satisfactory after having eaten two mouthfuls. Mine, the smaller dish had one slice of beef, which l expected, but it was riddled with gristle. Uneatable. The brocoli was too hard to cut. Very disappointing and unacceptable. My partner's meal was no better, out of two slices of meat, he managed to extract maybe one slice which was edible. His brocoli was similarly, too hard, his cauliflower was warmed up and burnt, his carrots overcooked. We informed a waitress, who called her manager, who said beef always had gristle in it. Surely not the whole slice!!. She was very unhelpful . She offered us two free cups of coffee, which we declined. We paid the bill and left, very disappointed. We had a similar experience a couple of weeks before, but thought we would give them another chance. We will not be returning. It is a shame because we have frequented this pub quite a lot. We will warn...
